If you've had a baby born between 34-37 weeks how big were they, any complications, and any NICU time? Thanks for sharing!

I had twin boys at 35 weeks. They weighed 5lb, 4oz and 4lb, 11oz at birth. They dropped down to 4 lb., 11oz, and 4 lb. 6oz respectively. The bigger of the two (Alex) had some breathing issues and was on full oxygen. He was then switched to a CPAP, and then to a nasal canual. He also had jaundice, so he was under the lights for a couple days as well. His NICU stay was 13 days long. My other son Andrew (the smaller one) only had some feeding problems. He was in my room with me for the first 5 days, then he was moved to the NICU for another week because he lost too much weight due to poor feeding. Now, they are 6 months old and are doing great! They show no signs of being premature! :o) Hope this helped.

My daughter was born at 34 weeks and weighed 5lbs even. She went to the NICU for precautionary reasons and was put on O2 for less than 24hrs and was in an open crib for one week. When we thought we were going to be sent home, she contracted c-diff which is a bacterial infection. At that point we basically started from scratch. Isolette, O2, IV fluids & antibiotics, feeding tube..........the whole nine yards. Long story short we spent a total of 21 days in the NICU. She is now 8 months old and has caught up both developmentally and physically! No lingering problems or issues. Happy to share

My son was born at 34 and 3/4 weeks gestation. 6 weeks early. He was 5lbs 5ozs. 19 inches long. He was born with the inability to suck and he had low blood glucose. He was in the NICU for a week. It would have been longer but he was such a champ!

Im originally from Chi, but since this was my 1st baby and my mom lived in Vegas, we planned a 10day trip for me to come visit and for her to feel the baby kick.... you know all that sentimental stuff. The plan was for me to fly out spend 10 days with my mom, return and enjoy my baby shower and eventually my newborn baby. I checked with my doc 4days before my flight to confirm that both baby and I were healthy and had the green light for travel, we were.

Sunday evening I flew out, Mon there was no problems. Tuesday I woke with mild abdominal pressure and thought nothing of it. By that night it had escalated to strong abdominal pain. When I got to the hospital I was told that my placenta had ruptured and my baby was in distress. The preformed an emergency c-section and my little girl was born 9weeks early. She was born at 1:25am at 3lbs 11ozs. Her lungs were under developed so she was placed on 2 respiratory machines.

Now im in Vegas, my baby is in the NICU and all family and friends, including her father is back in Chicago shocked and just trying to catch up emotionally and mentally to the past 6days. Thankfully she is progressing and is now breathing completely on her own, but we still have a ways to go before she is discharged do to feeding issues and her belly rueben. They still estimate her release will be around late Oct close to her due date. Who knows when or even we'll return to Chicago anytime soon.

I had my daughter at 36 weeks.. She was 5 ponds and 15 ounces. She didn't have to got to the nicu or anything, but sence being born she does have a very poor immunine system. She has had to have two surgerys on her ears to try and stop the infections... We will find out in November if she will have to have another!

My story is almost exactly the same as Shannon's! My daughter was born at 34 wks and weighed 3lbs 2oz. I too had preclampsia and was put on bedrest, given steroids for her lung maturity and I had VERY high bloodpressure. I was induced but her heart rated was failing with each contraction so I had an emergency C section. Kyla stayed in the NICU for 3wks. The only problems she had was also maintaining her body temp and eating-she lost a little of a pound and when we took her home she weighed 3lbs 9oz!! We were very blessed! She is now 15 months and is always in motion-I am having a tough time keeping up!!

My daughter was born between 34-35 weeks due to PROM. She was delivered by c-section and weighed 6pounds and 1 ounce. She was ok at birth but within 12 hours had to have emergency transport to the University Of Virginia Medical Center. Her left lung wasnt fully developed which caused her right lung to collapse. (a pneumothorax) She lost down to 5 pounds while in the NICU and had a feeding tube, IV's, and c-pap machine. Also a small spell with jaundice.By age 3 she had pneumonia 4 times and hospitalized with it twice. She is doing much better now but requires daily nebulizer treatment in the winter months for prevention. She is an active 4.5 year old and weighs 37 pounds today:)

My daughter was born at 36 weeks and weighed 3lbs 15oz. I had preclampsia and was on bed rest for 3 weeks prior and after having an amnio to test for fetal lung maturity was told that I would get steriod shots every 12 hours for 3 days. My blood pressure continued to climb and the doctor decided to induce labor. After her heartrate began to drop they stopped the pitocin and I was taken to the OR for an emergency c-section. She stayed in NICU for a little over a week and her only problems where eating, holding her body temperture. She was a fighter then and now even at age7.

My son was born at exactly in Jan. of this year at 34 weeks and weighed 5 lbs 7 oz. He was resuscitated at the hospital and then lifelined to another hospital to be on a ventilator. He was in the NICU only 1 week before they found a heart murmur and was off the ventilator in 2 days after birth. The echo test on his heart reveiled 2 holes in his heart and what they call a double outlet right ventricle defect which means that the pulmonary artery and aortic artery were both going to the right ventricle instead of 1 going to one side and the other going to the other side. He spent almost 1 month in the NICU. He has a feeding tube that goes directly to his stomach because his breathing was so bad he couldn't handle taking the bottle. We couldn't take him anywhere, he could barely handle going to his dr's appts. He had a surgery in Feb. on his heart. He just had open heart surgery in June to repair the defects. Before his open heart he was always so blue and pale white looking and always in and out of the hospital. Now he is almost 8 months old and doing wonderful weighing in at a whopping 14 lbs 6 oz. He is pink colored instead of blue now and has Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis, IN to thank for his life. He is such a happy boy and so far so good with his heart. We are thankful for what God has given us the good and the bad. He has a 3 1/2 year old sister who absolutely adores him. We are so greatful to have him in our lives.

my son was 34 but almost 35 weeks because i had preeclampsia and they had to do an imediate c-section. he had intrauterine growth restriction and they think he had stopped growing, he was 3 pounds and 10 ounces. he stayed in nicu 2 weeks. his only issues were weight and at 6 wks old he had to have hernia repair surgery on both sides and they had to remove his appendix during surgery. he is now 2 and 1/2 yrs old and weighs only 24 pounds but he is healthy and doing great!

my boys were born 34 weeks and one was 2lbs 3oz and his brother was 5lbs 5oz. Both were in the hospital my bigger son was in the icu for 2 weeks and my little guy was in for 5 1/2 months. they are 4 1/2 years now doing better but my little guy is still really small for his age he is 24 lbs and his brother is almost 40lbs.

My little guy had a number of complications: vsd, pdf, and one other i cant remember the name. he had a blocked instine so at a week old he had surgery and ended up with an ilistomy(sp?) he had chronic lung disease, failure to thrive, we found that he could not absorb the fat from my breast milk so thay had to give him somehing else. at 4 1/2 months he came home with oxygen and a ng tube, a week leter he went back with infulenza and the doc only gave him a 5% chance of surviving. he was on a breathing machine for 2 weeks then he came off and 2 weeks later he came home for a second time this time it was to stay. he also has had a g tube placed, reversal of the ilistomy and his testicles had to be dropped, when they wnt in for that they found he had a hurnia (sp?). with all of this he is a fighter and his brother makes sure he is alright when they are not fighting.

My baby girl was born at 35 weeks. I developed preeclampsia at 31 weeks and was put on bedrest, she came on her own though. No inducing until I was already 3cm, they just wanted to speed it up. We had one scare during the labor where her heart rate dropped fast but with oxygen for me that was fixed in a matter of 10 minutes or so. She didn't need any time in the NICU, she was 5lbs 7oz at birth and dropped to 4lbs 15oz before we went home, we spent 3 days in the hospital. She didn't have any Jaundice or any other problems, we were very lucky, we just had to worry about her body temperature for the first 2 weeks. She is growing like crazy now & doing great! 1 month old & she's grown 2 inches and weighs 6lbs 13 3/4oz

My daughter was born at 34 weeks and two days and was 4lbs 7.7 oz and 16.5 inches long. She stayed in the NICU for 11 days. She almost got to come home after just four days because she was doing so well and after testing there were no problems with infections (they put her on antibiotics because they werent sure why my water broke and wanted to make sure she didnt have an infection). However she didnt pass her carseat test. they told me she would be able to come home that she only needed to pass the carseat test. so i said okay sure, not knowing that she had to sit in it for 90 minutes while her citals were being written monitored and recorded every 15 minutes. So my husband and I go to the hospital and watch the videos we needed to watch and come out of the room only to find my daughters heart rate dropping right in front of our eyes. It was frightening. So she couldnt come home because she couldnt handle the carseat yet. The next day she passed the test but they were being more precautious and decided she needed an extended stay. We had a little trouble bfing at first but now were both pros! Now she is 7 months and 1 week old and doing great! She sits up on her own, she loves to stand and she says ba and ma (along with other babblings). We are having a great time and she is truly a blessing

My son didn't spend any time in the NICU but has had some health issues and isn't growing properly. My youngest spent 2 weeks in the NICU because she was too tired to eat, she doesn't have any health issues but doesn't want to roll over or anything like that. I also had a girl born at 31 week that was 2lbs 9oz, she spent a month in the NICU and didn't have any issues at all. She is almost 5 now and is very tiny. Hi! My little man was born at 34 weeks, 6 days. He weighed 8 lbs, 9 oz (no, I did not have diabetes or any other pregnancy complications to make him that huge), and needed to stay in the NICU (Nickname in NICU was Moose!) for 13 days. At first, he needed help to breathe, then he got lazy with the feeding and needed to learn how to do it. We celebrated his 2nd birthday in May and he is amazingly healthy and growing like a weed. When I last weighed him he was 34 lbs! The only problem we have now is the tantrums!!! Good luck!

Both of mine were born at 36 wks. Tristan was over 7 lbs and Nicolas was over 6 lbs. The docs joked about how big they would have been had they stayed in the incubator (me). Tristan had neonatal pneumonia and severe jaundice. He spent his first few weeks of life in the hospital. Nicolas only spent one night because his breathing was too rapid. I had steroid shots with both because of preterm labor (with Nicolas it started at 20 wks). They are now 12 and 11 y/o and thriving!!!

He was born with a Hematoma on the front right side of his head, and has a small blood clot there also... Now my son has a speach delay.. He talks at an age of an 18 to 20 month old. He will be 3 in Sept. I had steroide shots so he wasnt in the nicu for breathing or anything just to gain weight, and he couldnt regulate his temp. right away.

My son was 35 weeks, weighed 8 pounds 13 ounces, and he was on in the NICU for 4 hours just to be watched, my daughter was 35 weeks and 4 days, 9 pounds 2 ounces, she never had to stay in NICU, but both were in hospital for 4 days after they were born. My son dropped almost 2 pounds in 9 days and was put in the Pediactric ICU for a month, but has was born with an immune disorder and caught an infection. My daughter had gain over a pound before we left the hospital. Both of my children had acid reflux for the first year. My son still has delays from his birth and health issues. My daughter is normal for her age, never has had any problems with being borm premature. The only thing different about the care that I got when I was pregnant with both, other then my daughter was a C-section, is that because we nknew my daughter was going to early, my doctor started steroids with at 32 weeks with that pregnancy. She was more developed than my son. Everything realy depends on the child, you never know with premature babies what is going to happen.

My daughter arrived, 5 1/2 weeks early, weighing 6lbs 3 oz. The first 3 weeks of her little life were spent in NICU. Reason being that she developed jaundice and would not feed. Bella Rose (my daughter) is now to and has no issues eating - we call her a bottomless pit. However, Bella is always sick as she suffers with a very low immune system. xoxo
