How long were they in hospital for and what was their weight? I am 33+4 at present but baby is small for dates and was wondering if they deliver early, how long he may be in for after birth. Thanks

I had a similar problem and they did an emergency c-section at 32 and 5, i was transfered to a hospital with a great NICU and they felt given the circustances that she would do better in an incubator than the womb because of blood flow problems in the umbilcal cord, she was born weighing 2 pounds 10.4 ounces but was perfectly health (no complications at all) and when she came home she was 4 pounds 8 ounces. they had told me that there were a few things that had to happen before she could come home: she had to maintain her own body temperature, she had to eat a minimum of 80% of her feedings, she had to gain weight constantly, and had to be at least 35 weeks gestational. they also said that she would need the car seat test but we were transfered to our crappy local hospital so they never did it. I hope things go very well for you!

Also the problem with both of mine was feeding. Preemies before 35 weeks can have trouble eating. Both of mine had ng tubes. It took a couple weeks for the to develop suck swallow reflex. It's a very common problem.

Hi Samantha, the length of stay in the hospital depends on two things - birth weight and your baby's ability to sit in a car seat without losing oxygen. At least that is what I went throught. Your will will have to pass the car seat test before leaving the hospital. I think the safe weight for discharge is 5lbs, the age is 35 weeks, and the car seat test must be passed. I hope this helps.
GOOD LUCK!

I was told at 33 wks that my son stopped growing at 28 wks. Then at 34 wks I had an emergency csection. He was 3lbs 10oz 16.5 inches. He was in the nigh for 3weeks but now he is a happy healthy almost 3year old :)

My midwife said if the scan shows the placenta is the problem they will deliver early, thats the reason I said it.

Just because your baby is measuring small doesn't mean it will come early.
My son was a month early, he weighed 6lb 1oz and was 48.5cm long. We were kept in hospital for 4 days. I was very lucky he was perfectly fine with no complications
