So she's little still! :) My son was born at 28 weeks (2 lbs 2 oz) and is 2 1/2 years, so he's far out of it, but I certainly remember those awful days. He's doing great developmentally. Right on track and always has been. He has always been ahead large motor wise. He walked at 10 months, 7 months adjusted. It should take a few days for you to see a difference with the medicine. Praying that helps her a lot! If that doesn't help, ask about the rice. We started my son while he was still in the NICU. He has not had any side affects from it at all. Yeah, we had some gas probablems, but not too bad. He was constipated though the first 6-9 months.
Sometimes we would have to give the prevacid right before his feeding and that seemed to make a huge difference too, even though the doctor said it wouldn't. It was like it was coating his throat and soothing it.

My daughter had this up until a few months ago. She is 20 months old (17 months adjusted). She has short gut syndrome due to NEC, and has always been on Prilosec up until about a month ago. We couldn't imagine having her out of sight because of the possibility of her spitting up and choking on it. She has always slept with us in bed. No baby monitor would pick up one of her episodes. When she would nap, I would keep her out in the living room so I could see her. We also thickened her formula withrice cereal. This lowered the frequency of her episodes and helped her gain weight.

To Debbie. My daughter is 4 months/1.5 month corrected. She is not spitting up, however after eating she is in pain. She has started to associate the bottle with the reflux and sometimes will only breast feed. She cannot be put don't after feeds as she cries hysterically. She wakes up all the time, she sleeps for 30 mins the most. She is too young for cereal. I also recently bought a wedge for her crib, as she just started sleeping there. She is now on zantac, had her first dose last night. I haven't seen a difference as yet. Did you have major issues with gas also??? How old is your son now and now is he doing developmentally. Is he on track and how early was he???

Hello. My son had that. It is so horrible! How old is your preemie? How bad are his/her issues? My son was diagnosed when he was in the NICU still, thankfully. We did put rice in his milk/formula the entire first year. He was put on Prevacid, which had to be increased a couple of times as he got bigger. Although as he got older it did improve due to having more solids, being more mobile and sitting up, walking etc. When we gave him jar veggies and fruits we put rice in there also otherwise it would come back up also. It went away pretty much when he was right at 1 year old. We tried elevating his bed and that didn't improve it too much.
