Are children who are premies always sick?

My twins (now 5) were born 8 weeks early. They seem to always be sick with sinus infections and ear aches. Are premies prone to have more illness? Or is it just that time of the year?

I think that in the beginning their immune systems are not that of a full term baby but they catch up. Its probably just the time of year and could be that they just have sinus issues. My almost 32 week twins get colds that go right to their lungs every time. They are almost 1.

i'm up in the air whether I think it's a preemie thing or that time of year thing. I have a 24 week son that will be 3 in a few weeks and sometimes he is as healthy as a horse and other times I can't seem to get the snot to stop running (if you know what I mean). He has terrible ears. 4 sets of tubes in 1 year and adnoids out. So i'm not sure if they are prone or if it's because they were on so many antibiotics as a baby to make them resistant......?????

I don't know if you are open to it - but we've had awesome luck with taking our kids to the chiro for adjustments. Knock on wood but my 3 year old hasn't had anymore ear infections since we started going. They haven't been to the ped sick since we started.

Well my daughter was born 9 weeks premature and is now almost 3 ... she has not had an ear infection (knock on wood!!) but my niece who is almost 4 has had her fair share of ear infections and other sickness', my other niece 5 months old has a bad ear infection that has lasted over a month and now she needs tubes ... they were both full term babies. My daughter was and still is not a sick child, very rarely is she sick, however when she is sick it can last awhile or be really bad. Every kid is different and I don't think preemies or more prone to it ... unless of course they are still babies!! I think it has alot to do with the constant weather changes ... that always has a nasty effect on me!

I have a son that was 2 months premature also and he's 14 months now. He just recently had a viral infection and that was the first time he has been sick. I think every kid is different. I know some kids that were born to term that have constant ear infections, etc. Especially now that your twins are 5, I don't think the preemie thing is much of an issue. It is the time of the year....colds/flus are going around!!!
