If your child was born extremely early, how they doing now? what kind of challanges do they have, if any? I'm crious because my son was born at 24 weeks and I want to see if his struggles are common to most preemies? He is ten now.
blessed day to all!

There is a wonderful listserv for families with preemies age 4 and older. You can check it out at www.prematurity.org or google Preemie-Child. My daughter was born at 24 weeks, 1lb 11 oz, in the NICU 3 months. She is now 15 years old. She has learning disabilities, sensory processing disorder and anxiety disorder. She has had excellent special education support and also has attended a program for the gifted most of her school years. She just finished 9th grade and ranked top in her class.
Most of our preemie friends don't have quite so spectacular results, but most are doing well with proper special ed supports. Nearly all have some level of disability but many are fairly mild or easily coped with when there is support. Even with a label of some sort, most of these kids have good lives and are successful in their own ways, a good outcome I think.
