Hi everyone my premmie Bailey is 6 months old and having the most awful reflux. He is already on a thickner for his milk and a strong anti-acid but he is still screaming in pain and is not very settled, hence why im juggling him on my lap at this moment. Any tips for this kind of reflux would be great Thanks

My 30 weeker had problems with reflux as well. He was on Zantac for a while, but they have to keep upping the dose as it loses effectiveness. He did eventually grow out of it. Are you feeding solids yet? I noticed that certain foods irritated him more than others, especially apples. If you are nursing, try cutting out dairy for a while. I know other formula fed babies that had to use expensive formula ( I can't remember which type). Our pharmacist told me they have had good luck using a combination of zantac and prevacid. Hope you find something that helps.

My daughter was born at 33 weeks and also developed acid reflux. I sought help from a cranio-sacral therapist. The therapist (who also had a NICU baby) said the reflux is mostly due to the feeding tube inserted into preemies. The eshophageal sphincter muscle never learns to fully close around the feeding tube. Thus, once removed, the sphincter allows back flow of the stomach acids. It made so much sense to me once he explained it. Anyways, he worked on her for 2 sessions. When we went back for the 3rd he worked on her for 15 minutes, said her body was already healing, suggested we let it continue to heal. Within 2 weeks the reflux was gone! I don't know where you live, but I'd be happy to share more info with you about cranio sacral therapy. If nothing else, research it and find out if there are any therapists near you! Good luck!
