Has anyone had a cerclage, and if so when did they take it out?

I went into labor @36wks with my 1st & the other two I carried to term.. maybe a couple of days early.. the last was the hardest & I was on strict bedrest withh all 3 of my beautiful blessings.. my 1st was 4lbs 14oz but the other two were both 6lbs 14ozs.. I had a cerclage placed at 15 weeks and was on strict bed rest my whole pregnancy. I am now will be having it removed next week at 37 weeks, I am so happy I lasted this long.

Kristin, I am glad to hear your little one is doing well! I am terrified I will go into labor with my cerclage in place! I had no idea I was in labor with my daughter (when I got to the ER-for not feeling well-they said I was 6cm and having contractions, none of which I felt!) and am afraid I won't know this time either. I hope you have a speedy recovery and that your little one continues to do well!

I had a cerclage put in at 20 weeks when they discovered my cervix was .8 cm long. Just to tell you, mine was incredibly short and only the cerclage was holding me together. My case is rare and yours sounds like it's going very normally. This was my first baby and it was a bit frightening to be told while having my routine gender ultrasound that I needed surgery the next day. I was on bedrest and seeing a critical care OB once a week. At 27 weeks, 4 days I had heavy bleeding and was admitted to the hospital because I was 4 cm. dilated. My cerclage was tearing hence the bleeding. I stayed in pretty hard labor that night (they say it was more painful because they kept the cerclage in hoping it would help hold me shut longer). Finally the mercury kicked in and the pains were not as frequent. I slept pretty good and started to get excited thinking our son might actually wait to be born. Then, I called the nurse because I thought I'd wet myself. As soon as they entered the room I felt horrible. I guess I went really pale and I started to vomit. They called in my OB immediately and had the cerclage removed. It was painful for me, but I am positive it was because I was in labor at the time. Plus, she was rushing becuase I was losing a large amount of blood. She even had to stitch me up later after the baby was born because she had hurried so much. I was 7 cm. dilated when they removed it. He was born 8 hrs. later and is currently still in the NICU. He is doing very well and is quite the fighter. Hang in there though, if you can make it to 36/37 weeks, whenever your doctor takes it out, you'll be fine. It shouldn't even hurt then. My case was unusual because I was so far into labor. I wanted so badly to make it to that point, but our little guy was dying to see what Christmas was all about I guess :)

Hi Tanisha, I never had one, but my close friend had it done twice with both of her kids. I was there for both deliveries, when she went into labor and was taken to the hospital, they took the cerclage out before delivering the baby. She never had any issues thereafter.

I was exactly 22 weeks when I got mine last week. I am really glad you have been able to continue with the pregnancy and your cerclage is holding! Are you on any bed rest, or are you able to do pretty normal stuff. My cervix was 1.5 when they did the cerclage this past week. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Wow janice & Lindsay thank god everything ended up ok. I had my daughter at 24 weeks scariest day of my life, so that's the reason they gave me a cerclage also at 20 wks. Same thing with me, was at a level 2 appointment when they said my cervix's was short 1.5. Now i'm 31 wks and I'm nervous now about taking it out or maybe just anxious whichever I'm just praying all goes well. I go to the doc every week my cervix's has been measuring 1.7 with the cerclage in, and it doesn't help that he's a big baby at 28 weeks the sono tech said he was 3 lbs So he maybe an 8 pounder once I deliver. Which is so weird because my daughter was only 1 lb 9 oz. So to be honest girls this is all new to me. I have never been pregnant this long. My due date is feb 20th sighing really scared! I haven't even had a baby shower yet because it has been really scary for me, you just never know!

I had a cerclage inserted at 21 weeks.....was having my 2nd trimester sonogram when the technician found that my cervix was basically none existent and my OB wound up inserting 2 cerclages to try and hold my cervix closed....I was put on bed rest and my water broke at 23 1/2 weeks....I was then admitted and on bed rest in the hospital. I had to have an emergency c-section at 25wks. My OB removed the cerclage 2 days after my son was born, one had actually fallen out on its own. I didn't have any dicomfort at all from the cerclage.

Good luck and feel free to ask any questions. .

I just got one last Wednesday. My daughter was born at 27 weeks 2 years ago and with this pregnancy my cervix was being monitored just in case I had a cervical issue...at last week's appointment I was extrememly thin, funneling and soft, so a cerclage was put in. My OB said that if I make it to 35 weeks, then that is when he will remove the stitch. Do you have one, or is it just a possibility?
