hi I had HELLP with my first pregnancy I was induced and delivered naturally at 36 weeks a 4 pound 1 baby boy. A 22 hour labour though that was closely monitored. My Blood pressure was 175/120 + dr said I should have died. When normally it's 120/80.

His size the doctor has since said he would not have grown much from the 30 week mark.

He is a healthy 3.5 year old now, with no developmental issues.

My second son I was concerned I would develop again and was given 50% chance, my OB started me off with low dose aspirin and calcium tablets from 12 weeks onwards through to 36 weeks. He was delivered naturally induced at 38 weeks I had no HELLP or PE!!!

Wow! After reading some of the stories here I consider myself and son lucky. I woke up dec 19 at 6am 35 weeks a long with sudden abdominal pain and difficulty breathing went to ER sent up to labor and delivery. I was checked in blood test, urine test and blood pressure all tested. Came back with HELLPs and preclampsia. I was hooked to all kinds of meds threw IV monitered closely. I dont think a nurse ever left my room. I shockingly was already dialated to a 3 when I arrived. At 11am the doc said induce to speed things up. Around 5pm dialated now to an 8 babies heartrate was no longer tolerating the contractions. So one awesome nurse came in roled me from side to side a couple times then bam now a 10 ready to push. They said if that didnt work a c-section was coming. a couple pushes later my baby boy came out a screaming! much to everyones surprise he was breathing on his own. Weighing in at 4lbs2oz 17in. long. Only needed an IV for low blood sugar for 4 days and under the lights with juandice for 3 days. He was able to latch on with no problems to breastfeed. We were both released on day 7 which was christmas day. I had to be on BP pills for 3 wks. Now at 2 1/2 mths old weighs 8lbs7oz 20in long and doing great still breast feeding with no problems.

i had to have an emergency c section at 28 weeks due to hellp. i went into the er 4 days before i had my son with chest pain under my breast bone, my upper back and down my right side of my ribs. they did blood work and an ultrasound. came to find out i had gallstones, i also had a evelated liver and low blood plates. they said they could not determine if it was the gallstones or hellp. they kept me there for three days where they gave me the steriod shots incase. and run blood work and blood pressure every so many hours, also did a 24 hours urine check. they said every seemed fine and thought i just past a gallstone. they released me thrusday afternoon at 1pm. by 6pm i had more severe pains. i got readmitted to the hospital where they again ran blood work and another ultrasound. the next morning a assoicate of my mid wifes came in my room and said i was going into severe hellp and the baby needed to come out asap. i had to have a blood platelet transfusion due to my platelets were at 31,000. it was the scarest week of my life. they just didnt know what was going on. they said my body was only showing two signs of hellp syndrome. it came on so fast and so strong no one knew just how sick i was. i remember my sister in law came in before my surgery and afterwards she said i was all gray before the surgery. hellp is nothing to play with. it is very dangerous and can hit you real fast. i remember i asked the doctor is my son and i would be ok and the doctor told me flat out i dont know! not something you really want to hear..

I woke up at 3 in the morning with what I tough was sever heart burns, I called the triage and they told me to come in to check things out, I drove myself as I have a 22 month old at home and told hubby I should be back in a couple of hours.

I was put on the monitor, with asymptomatic Pre-eclampsia and HELLP syndrome. the only odd thing for me was the heart burn... they admitted me, and when the did the ultrasound they found that the baby had IGR and very low amiotic fluid around him. They kept me on bed rest, I did the 24hrs pee test , got my two steroid shots and they delivered him by emergency c-section on July 4th! @ 26 weeks 6 days

I stayed in the ICU for 3.5 days, getting the magnesium through an IV, my blood pressure would not go down.. after 48hrs of me crying because I never saw my baby, the nurse asked the NICU to bring pictures to me. My platelet had dropped, my liver started to go all wonky and I was feeling like I was going to die.

But I got better and sadly was told that since it all happen in my 2nd pregnancy that we should not at all considered having a third baby... as I would have a greater risk of having HELLP agian and pre-eclampsia as well

My son was born at 29 weeks because I also had pre-eclampsia and HELLP. I went to my 28 week checkup on a Friday and had high the high bp but wasn't spilling protein yet. They sent me home and had me check my bp all weekend. On Monday I went back into the dr. and i was spilling protein so I was admitted into the hospital. After the 24 hour urine test... it came back that I was preeclampic but i wasn't severe so my dr. didn't want to deliver him yet. So I stayed on bedrest at the hopital for another 48 hours and they did another 24 hour urine test. i made it till Friday when I woke up that morning throwing up and had a SEVERE headache. I did not feel well at all! We hadn't gotten the results back yet but we all knew it wouldn't look good... and it wasn't. I was severely preeclampic... actually I should have been in kidney failure.. but I wasn't in HELLP! So, I was shipped to a hospital about 45 miles away because the hospital I was in wasn't equipped to care for a 29 weeker. By the time I got to this hospital... which took about 15-20 minutes.. I was in HELLP and I was going downhill quickly. So.. they delivered my baby boy by emergency c-section and he weighed 3 lbs and was 16 inches long. He was actually a pretty good size for a 29 weeker because the umblical cord was HUGE! so he was being fed well.. and it had all happened fast enough that it had just barely started affecting the placenta.. so he didn't suffer from it.

56 hours after my water broke and I was having contractions ever 6 minutes (whether they wanted to believe me or not) The doctor came in and told me they were inducing me now because Delaney and I were not doing good. She was born 2 hours later at exactly 34 weeks weighing 2lbs 14 oz. and 16 inches long. I had preeclampsia and severe HELLP also. She came out with the umbilical cord wrapped around a leg, arm and neck. She is now 2 and weights 19 lbs, doing well ...just have had a few bumps along the way!

I was 29 weeks pregnant with my first child when i developed HELLP, and had to have an emergency c-section. I began having extreme pain in my rib cage and felt horrible! I had just had my routine visit w/ my Dr. 4 days earlier and everything was normal. I had been experiencing some pain in my rib cage area on and off a week prior, but it felt kind of like bad heart burn and my Dr. told me to choose my foods more carefully. I finally went to the ER and discovered that I had HELLP and the baby was delivered an hour and a half later. I did get a platelet transfussion and spent a day in ICU, and finally came home 5 days later. My son spent 82 days in the NICU and is now a healthy 10 month old! It was the scariest thing I ever experienced and hope i never have to go through that again! I hope everything works out for you and your baby!

hiya, my little girl (who is 2 in April) was delivered at 35wks due to me developing pre-eclampsia and HELLP syndrome. I went into a rountine MW's appointment at 33wks & explained to her that I had horrible upper right sided pain (liver), dizziness, heart racing, blood pressure was out of control so she took blood a few days later she rang me up & told me I'd have to be referred to a specialist (but didn't say much more) so I went away, came back & had got my appointment. I went & was 34&5days. At the appointment I was told I'd have to go straight to the maternity ward where I was put on bed rest for 48hrs (nothin else being explained) I was given steroid injections to help the baby breathe as I was told that I would deliver within the 48hrs given, then at exactly 35wks my health deteriorated & they decided that I should be induced that day. I was monitored for a few hrs then I was induced. Luckily, they delivered me in time as my organs were beginning to shut down. Baby was healthy just a little jaundice. I stayed in HDU (High Dependency Unit) for 2 days then was sent to the maternity ward again as they were happy with my progress but not happy enough to send me home. Me & baby stayed in hospital for a further wk, wk & 1/2. She is now a happy, healthy 22month old (she was 5'11 & 19in long) & I am currently 34wks pregnant with my 2nd & I am being monitored very regularly & nothing bad has been detected as of yet (fingers crossed.)

I had a similar thing happen to me only more sudden, i was 35 week and went to one of my weekly check-ups with my doctor, feeling fine and ready for christmas break. when i got the after they checked my protien levels the doctor told me i was going to have to go to the hospital, that was on the 18th of december. i drove myself to the hospital and did a 24 hour uranalysis which came back borderline preeclampsia, while monitoring my bloodpressure was sky high and i was low on amniotic fluid so the enduced me 21 hours of contractions later i quit dialating at 4 cm, and the did an emergency c-section, my daughter emma was born on dec 21st at 10 pm she was 5 pounds 8 ounces 17 1/2 inches long, i had to be prescribed blood pressure meds before they released me but my baby girl was happy healthy and beautiful, and miraculously went straight to the regular nursery with no time in the nicu, we went home on christmas day.

I had HELLP also, I delivered at 28 weeks but my son had stopped growing at 26. I thought all was normal except a little bit of swelling, in fact when I went to the doctor the week before no one caught anything, they told me to cut all salt and drink more water, which of course made me swell more. Anyway, only 78 NICU days and at almost 2 he is fine. He still gets therapy through BabyNet which I would suggest if it's available to you. It's free and really helps them catch up. We are actually considering another baby with a new ObGyn and lots of monitoring. Good luck and rest assured, you will get through this.

yes, i had to deliver my baby girl at 34 weeks because of HELLP. It was pretty scary, and I did get a platelett blood transfustion. She weighed 4lbs 4 oz and was in the NICU for 11 days. She now is almost 2 months old, but she is still on oxygen. What about you?

my daughter was born @ 24 weeks 10/23/08 weighing 1 lb 2 oz & 11 3/4 inches long. I had pre-eclampia & severe HELLP. Overall, what I thought was a normal pregnancy, I went to the ER with what I thought was the flu. I had horrible upper right sided pain (liver), dizziness, heart racing, blood pressure was out of control. I went in @ 23 weeks & was able to hold off until doing an emergency csection @ 24 weeks 1 day, my platelet counts had dipped down to 13,000 by then. I'm happy to say, after a 142 NICU stay, my daughter is a happy healthy 14 month old now!! Good luck to you...
