Feeding with a feeding tube...

My baby is 3 months old and is eating only about 1 oz to 1 1/2 ozs every 3 hrs through her NG tube night and day... we are trying to push her feeding so that she can get at least 2 ozs at a time but she throws up after about 45 ml which is almost an oz in a half... and a lot of times she throws up her feeding tube... I dont know what to do to start giving her more without her throwing up her tube... has anybody gone through the same thing? Any suggestions???

My baby is 10 weeks old and is having the same issue with her NG tube feedings. She throws up after about 30 ml. What was your daughter's diagnosis and what medication did she get ? Do le me know! Thanks!

have they determined acid reflux? or is it the formula? we had a problem with formula in the nicu per NG cause I was still trying to build my supply of breast milk. Now we're strictly breastmilk. I'm sorry you're having a tough time.

My daughter had no problem eating, but she did have problems keeping the weight on her. At 3 years old she was only 24lbs, but after she had a g-tube done, she is up almost
9lbs since the surgery!

My son had a NG tube from birth to 17 months old. He is 4 years old now and has a PEG tube. I cant remember him throwing up when he had the NG tube put he wld pull it out and I wld have to put it back in. With the PEG tube if i let the milk run in too fast while bolus feeding him then yes he wld throw up. My son is also on prevacid.Question: Do u bolus feed her?

Ya, she did it when she was in the hospital but she never threw up the tube until we got to take her home... lol of course. we were just giving her 40 ml and then like half an hr later another 20 ml but her doctor put her on some meds and she is taking about 60 ml at a time now!!! YAY! hopefully in a little we will be able to increase on that, too!!! thanks for your comment and suggestion...

My son did this in the nicu, whether it was through his tube or bottle. He would reflux almost all the feeding when he had only 5ml left. He was put on meds- prevacid and reglan, and improved soon after. But it may just have been that time in his development, learning to feed. Can you give smaller amounts more frequently and still increase the daily amount?
