My son who was born 4 weeks early and weighed 4lb 9oz who turned 5months on the 27th of Jan. 3 weeks ago I started to give him solids because the demand for food was simply not enough to satisfy him. I only give him 1 serve a day and it is only about 1/4 of a jar. Since doing this he is now putting on weight and is starting to look like a chubby baby. I spoke to the clinic nurse about this and she totally went off at me, telling me he was far to young and this would not be good for his development, I have since not gone back to the clinic and nor to ever go back. Did anyone else get this treatment and has anyone else started to feed their baby solids?

I started to feed my daughter, 30 weeker, when she was 8.5 months old so around 6 corrective age.. her Dr and I wanted to start her out for weight gain problems, she was just too small and not gaining weight like she should with formula. She was also major constipated and the solid foods like prunes, green beans, and squash are good to help get them going again. I think a good rule is if you child can sit up in the high chair and is coordinated enough to eat the baby food that it is fine. As for being yelled at by the nurse... that is soooo uncalled for and I think you are right not to go back. Find a Peds who is familiar with dealing with preemie babies and that you are comfortable with as well.
