My child was born at 36 weeks but was TOTALLY ready to come out at 6 1/2 pounds 20 inches. He immediately started to release maconium. Has anyone had this similar sinario and they're children come out premature but totally ready, and healthy?

Yes, my 32 weeker (in 2005) spent 8 days in the NICU and came home! It can happen and I was all so grateful.

I had to have an emergency c-section with my second child, a girl. She was 36 1/2 weeks. The cord was wrapped around her ankles so each time she moved her heart rate would go really low and then jump back up. She was born 5 lbs13 oz and 18 inches long. The dr was unable to do a test to make sure her lungs were fully developed before he had to do the c-section so i was kind of worried but when he pulled her out and i heard that 1st wail it was 1 of the greatest things i have ever heard in my life.

Same thing happened to me! I started going into labor at around 30 weeks though but they managed to hold off until the day I turned 36 weeks. He was 7 pounds 2.6 ounces and 21 inches! He did have slight breathing trouble at first though, but only spent about 7 hours in the NICU and went home when I did. Other than that he was and still is perfectly healthy.

My daughter is ten and I was told anything after 36 weeks is considered full term, so if she is healthy, I wouldn't worry about the numbers. Also my niece and nephew were 31 and 30 weeks respectively. My niece had to learn to suck and my nephew had underdeveloped lungs, but they are now 11 and 10 and perfectly healthy, happy kids. To look at them now, you'd never know they were preemies.

They told me there was a possibility that she would be delayed. The only thing that she was delayed on was getting her teeth, that took her a little while but everything else was right on track. How is your baby developing?

Did they tell you that she wouldn't really develop as fast as other babies? just being a premie?

Hi! My daughter was born at 33 weeks and weighed 5lbs 5ounces which is really big for being so early. She had to go to NICU for a couple of hours. She was delivered by emergency csection and her lungs were not clear yet. She was brought to my room later and was able to leave perfectly healthy at the 3 day mark which is when they allow csection moms and babys to leave.
