How big was your baby? Is your baby catching up with their birth age?

I was just wondering how big your babies were when they were born and how early were they? Also is your child caught up with activities of their birth age or are they still at their gestational age? My youngest was born at 27weeks due to preeclampsia and he only weighed 1lb 6oz and he was 12.25 inches long. We were in the NICU for 2 1/2 months. He is almost a year now and is caught up in some ways but still a little behind. He is almost walking but just not there yet. I was just wondering how everyone else's babies are doing and how long it took them to catch up.

My daughter was a 24 weeker. She will be 2 years old later this month. She is still not walking and her doctors say she is about a year old with everything she is doing. And she is about 15 pounds right now. So she is pretty behind but she's been through a lot over these past 2 years too. It is best to keep your child as protected as possible from getting sick because sickness will always keep your daughter behind. Every premie is different too and every full term baby even grows and developes at their own pace. Try not to worry too much yet.

my daughter was born at 8 months. she was 6 pounds already. she lost weight in her first months and is still on the small side at 3 1/2 at 32 pounds and 38 1/3 inches. but she talked by 7 months and was upright walk on her own by 8 1/2 months. now we are nocting that she has sensory issues witch they say is normal for premies.

My baby was born at 35 weeks and has been on track since birth. They say that by age 2, the child will be like all other kids his age. Hope this helps!

My baby was 3lbs 12oz and is now 3.5 years old and is still tiny for his age. He was early because of IUGR, so I am not sure if that is why he is slow to grow now as well.

I have a 20 month old and she has problems with weight. She is getting Early intervention but they are thinking that she will not need it anymore once she is two. The only problem is that she does not eat well and she does not speek real well, but I keep telling myself that she is only 20 months. She is only 19 1/2 pounds. She is short and skinny.

My son was born at 28 weeks at 2 lbs 2 oz, 14 inches long. He'll be a year on Christmas Eve. Developmentally he's between his adjusted age and actual. Gross motor he's right on with his actual age. Fine motor and speech he's right on with his adjusted. The gap seems to be growing, honestly, as he gets older. But that's ok. He's still on track with expectations at minimum.

They definitely go at different paces.

My daughter was a preemie. She is now 11 and is in sixth grade she has caught up in most areas. She is still behind in others. Give them time they become their own person and catch up for the most part. Encourage them and try not to let it get you down ecspecially when they start school.

My daughter is a 33 weeker due to pre-e/hellp. She was 3lb 12oz and 17.5 in long. She will be 5 months old in 9 days and now weighs 12 lbs 13 oz and is 24 1/4 in long! She stayed in the NICU for 10 days (only to feed and grow). She's in the 25th percentile for height and weight and is developing right on time for her actual age! It's like she forgot all about being a "preemie"! Praise GOD!

My daughter was a 24 weeker weighing 1lb 2oz. We spent 142 days in the NICU. She came home with no monitors & has had no lasting issues from her prematurity other than her eyes. She has had 4 laser surgeries, 1 surgery to remove a blood clot in her eye from all the surgeries, she has been wearing glasses for about 6 months now and has a "lazy" eye on the right side. We will probably need surgery for that. She is now almost 14 months old and weights about 17 pounds. She is crawling everywhere & is pulling herself up onto all of the furniture, the walking is coming!! Overall, she is our little miracle & we are amazed and grateful for how well she has done...

My son was born at 28 weeks beacuse of PIH and pre-eclampisa. He was 1lb 8 oz now he is nine pounds making his way to ten. With his developement he is basically where he is supposed to be with his birth age. He kind of fall in between birth age and adjusted age. He's catching up and I am working with him. He will be 5 months on the 10.

my daughter was born at 25 weeks, she was 1 lb 13 oz and 12.4 inches long and spent 103 days in the NICU. Today she turned 2, we are amazed at how much she has caught up to other 2 yrs olds. There are a few gross motor skills she needs to work on, (jumping & kicking a ball) but for the most part she is doing amazing. She is counting to 10 sometimes 15 and sings Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. I know all babies are different so don't worry too much.

He is a 1yr and 2 weeks now and and he got his 1 year shots and he weighs 15lb and 9 oz and 27 1/4in long. hes still under the 5 percentile of his age group. he is crawling full force, trying to walk and says mama and baba and up. he is eating real food. if he stands behind something and walks with it. he is very smart.

my son was born at 32 weeks and weighing 3lb 15oz and 16 inches long. He was right there at his age group developmentally. He is now approaching 2 years old and is still kind of small, he wears a 12 month pant and they are still to big in the waist and length. But me and his father aren't very tall so I know that's partly genetics at play also. But he is doing great and is still right there at his age group.

My son was born at 24 weeks gestational age weighing only 1lb 2oz. He was in the NICU for 13 weeks and then when he was about 71/2 months birth age, he started having breathing difficulties and was hospitalized again for 7 more months. He has really caught up a lot in this last year but is still not where other 3 year olds should be. He may never be but he is such a miracle and a blessing, that I've quit seeing his delay's and only see his accomplishements.

my daughter was born at 36 weeks due to fluid being less then 3 and she has gastroschisis... she was 3lbs 8oz and 16in long.. due to her size at birth she was more like a 33 to 34 weeker size wise... She is age adjusted to be 6 months now she is almost 8 months old. i feel that there are somethings she is catching up on and others she is still behind on.. i think all babies are different any ways, but i think that preterm babies just fight a little harder to do thing, that and they have fought to keep going so to me they deserve a little bit of down time.. Plus if they have had Sugery's and other problem beside just being early.. So i have kind of let her show me what she is ready to do.. she is not rolling or crawling like most 7 month olds are but i am not worried i know she will do so in her own time.. she will roll belly to back but not back to belly.. She will not stay on tummy cus of her gastroschisis... She is now up to 17lbs and 25 1/4 in long but looks like she is only 4 to 5 months old.. Well to look at my son at her age she looks really small.. lol... over all she is doing great for the most part.. i am glad to hear your little guy is doing well.. Best wishes and take care..

My daughter was born at 30 weeks also from peeeclampsia, and she weighed 2lbs 7oz. She stayed in the NICU for 7 weeks. She is now almost 11 months old and so far she has almost caught up in her weight, she's still a lil behind in her height, but as far as learning skills go, she is above where she is supposed to be. She is almost walking on her own, and alot more! Skill wise she is @ a 13-14 month old.

My daughter was also born ta 27wks, she weighed a whopping 2lbs 11oz (what can I say I grow them big...lol)...we're still not sure what caused my pre-term labor. We spent 2 1/2 mos in the NICU and came home at 6lbs even. She will be 2 in January. She pretty much still falls along her adjusted age for development. She was crawling at 13mos (10 adj) and walking at 16 mos (13 adj). She is still behind in her speech (about 2 mos behind even her adj age).

We got her into an early intervention program as soon as she came home from the NICU and that was wonderful! She got OT and PT as soon as they noticed a problem (some muscle tone issues that are better) and we also have a dietician and early childhood teacher following her monthly.

Weight was the quickest thing for her to catch up on, she did so by 9 mos old, but then from 12 mos to 19 mos she didn't gain any weight. We had to keep reminding ourselves that she is still a preemie and that does happen.

Bridgette, birth age (or chronological age) is calculated from when your baby was born. Gestaional age (or adjusted/corrected age) is calculated from when your baby was due. My daughter was 3 mos ealry, so at her due date her chronological age was 3 mos, but her adjusted age was still 0, she was like anewborn. Hope that helped!

My son was born at 27 weeks too, also due to pre eclampsia. He's 6 1/2 months now. I always say his head is 6 months old and his body is 3 months old! He is quite vocal, smiles a lot, makes eye contact, and copies things. But he can't roll over or sit up unsupported.

He was 1lb 7oz at birth and now 11lb 11oz, so he is catching up, and is catching up more quickly in terms of weight now he's eating solids. And this has improved his hand eye coordination too.
