My daughter was born at 26W and 4D. She came home after 90 days in the NICU. She had a grade III IVH, but other than some minor gross motor delays that we are getting Physical Therapy for, she is a happy, healthy, 3 year old girl. We are very blessed that our journey has a happy ending. It's definitely a roller coaster ride, but makes you appreciate how fragile life really is and what a lot of people take for granted.

My grandson was born in Oct. 2012 at 24 wks 5 days, he weighed 1 lb 3 oz., 12 in long. He came home after 4 months in the NICU. He is now 7 months - weighs 12lbs 6 oz, and is 22 in. long. He laughs out loud, can roll over but is having a problem with his head and neck, he has severe Torticullous and may have to wear a helmet for a couple of months.

My son was a 32 weeker weighing 3 lbs 9 ozs. He was in the nicu for 21 days. When he was born he was fully developed in every way. Just a very lil guy. 21 days of visiting the hospital 4-5 times a day to breast feed was hard. The hard part was leaving my baby there when I so desperately wanted to bring him home. We later found out (when he was 9 months old) that he has down syndrome. It wasn't until he began to get his chubbiness that we could see the signs. I have never seen such a tiny thing before I saw my baby and my best friends premee girl. I know of other babies being even two lbs smaller and growing normal and well. it amazes me of how far we have come with premees. Thank you to all of the drs and nurses around the world who bring out tiny miracles into this world!

Samit, I am so sorry for the loss of your beautiful daughter. Nothing is harder than losing your child. When our daughter was a NICU baby, I saw some children pass away there and their families, too. I will always remember them and how deeply they hurt. It has been 26 years and I have never forgotten them and I will always remember you and your daughter too. May God help you in your grief and may He send you the strength to cope so that you can continue your life and care for the ones who need you now.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family Samit. Losing a baby is the hardest thing any mother/father should ever have to go through. It's been 5.5 years since I lost my sweet daughter, and not a moment goes by that I don't think about her.

My second baby girl was born on 5th nov.2012 after 26weeks of gastration. The baby was expire on 20th jan2013, after 77days in NICU. Its a sadest moment in my life. I never forget in till the end of my life. The baby was born with premature lungs. In first 10 days she was in oxygen and slowly recover from it. She was completely came out from oxygen and takes normal breathing. Suddenly she collaps and forget to take breathing. Doctor told this is apnea. She slowly recover from it and starts feeding. We hope she will come out. But all hopes goes to end . She was put on ventilation on 20th december2012. Still upto 20th january2013 she was in ventilation . Not a single body movement occurs in that period. Lastly she goes, leaving us on 20th jan2013 at 4pm.

Did she have any respiratory problems or brain injuries? I hope not,Aleia was in nicu for8 months came home by ambulance and with hospice. She wasn't suppose to live but she made it! We just celebrated her 2 nd birthday. She still has a trach and a feeding tube but trach will come out in spring. She has mild cp that we are working on. She is slowly getting stronger.

My now 8yr old was 6 wks early weighed 5 lbs 4oz and spent 1 week in the NICU for observation purposes... I was so thankful she was ok and was breathing very well after her birth. But taking a preemie home was nerve wracking.. she had to have an apnea monitor on her at all times unless I was bathing her from the time I brought her home until she was about 4 mths old. I know my daughter was not in long but knowing some of the moms that I met there and their stories comforted me in all the worrying I was doing. One mom told me that she had been there since June and here it was Sept and they were probably goin to get to go home in another month. I actually witnessed a Baby comin IN the NICU fighting for his life... Broke my heart to see him... he weighed less than 1lb but the nurses and doctors there said "we have a policy here, if they come in fighting, we have to and will do anything and everything to fight for them." That little boy survived and is a handsome young 8 yr old now. I now have a 3 mth old and thankfully she was full term...

This site Samantha is for premature babies! Babies born before 37 weeks! If your child was born at 38 plus weeks and is healthy I do not beleive you have to worry about commenting on this site! Unless your child is sick and in the Neonatal intensive care unit!

My daughter was born 9 weeks premmie, weighed 3 pounds & 11 ounces, she was in hospital 4 weeks, she had many challenges. She was not able to walk un-assisted, she needed support to sit up, drooled constantly, developmentally delayed, frequent body tremors, some seizure like episodes, kind of in a daze all the time, clenched left hand, choking on her food, speach problems, left side weakness etc. She was elevated on her toes when holding her to walk, she was splinted for a leg brace & they wanted to give her botox, but after researching botox and discovering how it’s made and there were no long term studies I decided against it. Her life was restricted & so was mine ...and it looked this way for the rest of her life ... & mine. I felt hopeless.

We were attending all sorts of treatments and therapies which cost a lot. A friend told me about some special wellness supplements from a particular company, she started taking them in her yogurt, after one week she was up walking un-assisted, it made an immense difference to her brain function, memory, balance, mood & cognition in a short space of time. She began to thrive. I was elated!

I am so grateful to the person that told me about this incredible technology. She now has a life now ….. and so do I. It’s now over 14 yrs later and she continues to take these special nutrients, she has attended normal public schools, she is almost 16, in a few weeks she begins driving lessons and has just started an after school casual job in a fast paced food takeaway. Now she is taller than me.

Both of my babies were preemies. My oldest was 30 weeks and my youngest was 34 weeks. My oldest got to come home with me while my youngest had to stay in the NICU for 2 1/2 weeks. My oldest weighed 5 ponds 10 ounces and my youngest weighed 4 pounds 15 ounces. My youngest is still in the struggling category because is he still short for his age but my oldest who is almost 18 now is a whopping 6 foot 3. So they do grow out of it eventually, or atleast mine did. By the way my two children are 15 1/2 years apart.
