My twins were born at 33 weeks. One came home at 8 days, and one at 15 days. I have major issues with this, though. They kept insisting that weight didn't play a factor in the length of time, just breathing, body temp., feeding. My daughter, who came home at 8 days, was 3 1/2 lbs. at the time. 4 days later, she was back in the hospital as she got some sort of virus causing diarrhea, and they wouldn't let her back in the NICU, so she was in the regular pediatric ward. I feel the hospital made a huge mistake sending her home so small.
HOWEVER, both my kids did fantastically as they grew! They are now 9 years old. My 3 1/2 lb. girl now weighs 84 lbs.! My 4 1/2 lb. boy now weighs 63 lbs.

My daughter was born at 34 weeks and spent 17 days in the NICU. She was 4 lbs and when we went home she was 4 lbs 15 oz. I think we would have gone home sooner but the nurses held off giving her a bottle because I was breastfeeding her. The day after they began feeding her bottle when I wasn't there we got to go home.
She is 11 months now and is a chunk! She weighs 20+ pounds and loves to eat!

My daughter was born at 28 weeks and was 3lb at birth. She was also in a breech position bottom first - interesting as she is very determined and headstrong, should have known I guess! We spent 117 days on the NICU as she had to have surgery for NEC and reflux. We almost lost her three times as she also caught the influenza virus and spent a week in isolation. She is now two years old!

My daughter was 28 weeks. 2 lbs 12 oz. She was in NICU for 9 months. She was tranfered to 3 different hospitals. Finally brought her home on her Dads birthday. That was in 1992. I see from all the post that the NICUs have come a long way. I could tell you some things that would curl your hair. She is 18 & handicapped. I pray others have done better since those days. I read these post & being an RN & going thru my own night mare In NICU my heart goes out to each and everyone. No matter how unalarming some of them seem to me I realize it is a BIG deal to all who have a baby that is a preemie.

My son was born the morning I hit 34 weeks exactly. He weight 5lbs 6.2oz and was 18 inches long. He spent 4 days in NICU and 6 in Pediatrics (4 of those days because they were holding him until I got released since I had to have gallbladder surgery after he was born)
My daughter was born 35ish weeks (they aren't quite sure) she weighed 5lbs 9oz and was 17 inches long. She was in NICU for 7 days (She had to receive three doses of surfactant and be intubated) and Pediatrics for 3. She left the hospital at 5lbs 2oz. She was continuously losing weight and had set off the brady alarm the day she was discharged so the nurses told me they weren't discharging her. However the neo-natologist wanted to discharge her because he had worked with me before with my son and told them I was a seasoned NICU mommy (And going into the medical field to be an RN) and he felt comfortable sending her home with me, because he trusted me. I brought he back in for a check up two days later and she had finally started gaining weight! :)

My twins were born at 34.5 weeks, my son at 2lbs 6oz and my daughter at 4lbs 9oz. My daughter stayed in NICU for 3 weeks and my son for 4 weeks.
She still out weighs him by a good 10 pounds at age 3 but he makes up for it in personality. Congratulations on bringing your baby girl home!

My daughter was born at 29 weeks, 1030grams or 1Kg. We got steroids 48 hrs b/4 she was born. Doctors told us she wouldn't see out the day but she did, then they told us she would be in hospital for at least 6 months but she went home in 2 - a month b/4 her full term date. She'll be 2 in a couple of weeks.
