My baby is still in the NICU.

I expect to have him home at the beginning of January, '10.

By then it will have been 4 months having my baby in the NICU..

But he is doing so good he may even get to come home sooner!

My twins were in the NICU for 8 months. They were born at 21 weeks, 6 days. They weighed 1 lb., 3 ozs., and 1 lb., 7 ozs. That was 9 years ago! They are now very healthy, very active young ladies!!!! My youngest son was in the NICU for 3 weeks. He was born at 30 weeks, and weighed 3 lbs., 7 ozs. He is also a very healthy boy!! I still visit the NICU's they were born in and have become lifelong friends with the doctors and wonderful nurses that have taken care of my kiddies.

My little girl was born 5 weeks early at 5lbs. 4 oz. Was in the NICU only 5 days. Took her about 3 weeks to eat well on her own. She had decent acid reflux until 8 months or so and still has a sensitive stomach, though she will eat basically anything. She is a happy and healthy (almost) 1 year old! My heart goes out to all of you who had a baby in the NICU for so long!!

My son was born was born 3 months early. We were lucky that he was only in the NICU for 3 days but then spent 2 1/2 months in the Special Care Nursery (which is a step down from the NICU. It can be a long road but the nurses were like a second family to me. Get to know them and other mom's if you can. That is really what helped me. I think also know that it was always hard for me to leave every night. I thought I would get used to that but I never did. My son has been home since June and we have enjoyed every minute of it. The quote that helped me the most was "It will all be okay in the end. If it's not okay, it's not the end".

My son was born week 34.5 and he was sent home from the NICU in 8 days (born Dec 22 and came home New Years Eve). It seemed a bit too soon. What they were waiting for was his oxygen levels to even out since 34 weeks is when the lungs are developing. He was 5 lbs, 13oz when he was born and quickly gained 2 pounds in the first month. That was over 6 years ago.

One of my early memories of the NICU was when we had to set him down in the bassinet after the feeding so we could leave and his little hand clung to my shirt like, "Mommy, don't leave me!"

My daughter was born 7 weeks early and we spent one month in the NICU. She came home on monitors, but her time in the NICU was needed. She was released from the the NICU weighing 5 lbs and today she is almost 9 months old and weighs 14 1/2 lbs and is 26 1/2 inches. My prayers are with you. Having a child in the NICU is hard... but know that is the best place for her right now and when the time is right, she will be released. I will pray that she is home before the end of the year.

My daughter was born at 26 weeks weighing 1 lb 15 oz. She remained in the NICU at The Women's Hospital for 3 days and if you can imagine (because of insurance) she was transferred to another hospital and remained there 4 months. She is now an 11 years old 6th grader playing volleyball and terrorizing her little brother (smile). It was a long road to this point but with God, Family Support and every day and night spent in the NICU with her she made it through. Keep praying for him...Preemies are fighters.

He was a little delayed with his speech and sees a speech therapist at school but other than that he is right on track....

I got put in the hospital June 3 and I had her June 11 I was 29 wks along but growth wise she was 26 wks. She weighed 1lb 15oz and was14" long. We stayed til Aug 13th it was a very trying time. You don"t think theres a light at the end of the tunnel, especially when all your roomates go home, we had 10 roommates and watched everyone of them leave before us. But thats OK because it gives you a sense of hope. When I came home I felt so lost, and a little sad for 2months the hospital was our home. I got very attached to the NICU staff, they have actually talked me into going back to school for nursing!! I have a 9 yr old daughter also and she was my rock she stayed with me and took the classes participated in hands on with her sister. So hang in there, if you need to talk to someone I m here!

Hi my premature baby is now 16 years old and 6ft 4 inches!! He was in hospital just short of 6 weeks. I found the hardest part was maintaining breastfeeding, especially when your baby is born before the sucking reflex develops. Amazingly though at around 4 months when I visited a maternal and child health clinic I was told I was "over feeding" him - because he was so big and had gained a lot of weight really fast - I had started a small amount of solids as the milk didn't seem to settle him (he never seemed full), this was recommended by my doctor and it worked fantastic. I'm not sure what was the 'miracle' in those early years of his development, as you would never tell that he was born 3 months early. I was very fussy about his food, offered everything and to this day have never offered my children caffeine drinks or high salt/fat/sugar diets, just lots of fruit veg meats dairy etc - who knows.

My daughter was born at 35 weeks but only 2.6 lbs. She spent only 21 days in the NICU and came home weighing 3 1/2 lbs!! Any time having a baby in the NICU is tough, but I doubt there is a mother out there who didn't completely trust the wonderful nurses who cared for her baby! It was hard to leave her (she was in another state), but I called the nurses every time I woke up to pump breast milk and they gave me a report. NICU nurses are angels and they love your baby!!!!
