Hello:
I was just wondering if any of you ladies are making your own baby food? I am a food lover and shes a finicky milk drinker, but Im hoping shell wont be a picky eater, so my intention is to make her compotes so they taste better than the store bought ones. Do you think itll ake a difference? Thank you.

I have three girls and I've always made their food. It gives me the control over their nutrition. By now my 11 month old has eaten every vegetable or fruit you can think of. Is a lot of work compare to open a bottle of store bought baby food but is worth it. I say give it a try you'll love it.

I too made my own baby food and besides the fact it was fun. DH and I did it every week and it was time alone for us and I was making the food ( multi tasking ) the food definatly tasted better, looked better ect..and I knew exactly what he was getting. Also, we saved SO much money. I also pump wholesomebabyfood.com and once you are ready they have a toddler food site to transistion you over.GL

I'm making my own baby food as well as using the occasional shop bought one I have been given. I chose to do this mainly because of the limiting choice of flavours available, cost and I want my bub to like normal food not tinned so that she doesnt have to adjust to what we are eating as she already will be. I know a few people who have found that their bubs had problems switching from storebought to homemade when tehy were older bu I don't know if that was just the way it was introduced or not. I decided years ago I would mainly use my own plus I can freeze it down in icecube sized blocks free flow so there is less waste as she gets used to eating.

i puree all of my food, then defrost it each day... Matilda loves her food if i add a sweet vegetable with it... for example lunch at the moment is avacado, pumpkin (sweet) and suede....
i occasionally buy ORGANIC baby food if i need some when going out but most of the time i am stocked up.

I made baby food for 2 out of my 3 girls. I loved doing it! It was so convenient too. I froze them in ice cube trays and then put them in zip lock baggies in the freezer. I would thaw one to two cubes at a time. I didn't have fussy eaters, so they ate everything. It is a great way to introduce beets! But that is kinda messy! You should steam veggies rather than boil. I hope you have as much fun with it as I did.

I think with Prems who have had tummy/ feeding issues it is a great idea. It took a long time for my daughter to accept food and we went through lots of different food. Now she is amazing. I make all my food and freeze it into icecubes - (I also make my husband help me as it can sometimes be a process) Now she eats more, I make big pots and put it in large containers. I agree with Amy that wholesomebabyfood is a great website and get most of my ideas from there. I have now started being less intense and will sometimes take a jar of store bought organic food out with me. (And yes much cheaper)

I started my daughter on bought food at first and it wasn't easy to begin with as she was crazy over her bottle but as Amy said be persistant and baby catches on, because at this stage they are now learning. I now cook and puree her foods at home, hope this helps

I made my own baby food for both of my children. There are many benefits - you know exactly what's going into your baby's body, it tastes WAY better, and it's MUCH cheaper!

This is a good website with some pretty good info & recipes:

As for the picky eater part, just keep offering foods even when she refuses them. Eventually she may accept them. My son didn't like avocado at first but now loves it. And my 7-y.o. daughter has a super sophisticated palette! She loves sushi and split pea soup, and wants to try anything and everything new. She's so adventurous about eating - it's a great thing!
