Actually, two questions. Is it available and do all preemies get the shot and two, does it have any side-effects?

It would depend on how old your preemie is...over 6 months they can get the shot...BUT that is adjusted age. Most vaccines are given to preemies according to their birthdate (my daughter got her 2 mos shots at 2 months even though it was still before her due date)...but I was told that flu vaccines should be held off until their 6 mos adjusted. Not sure if that is just my ped's opinion but I was ok with waiting.
The side effects are relatovely mild (if they experience any). My daughter had no side effects from it and neither did I (I am pregnant). In our area it is really easy to get the vaccine if you are tier 1 (pregnant, care for a child under 6 mos, healthcare worker, kids 6mos-24yrs, and anyone over 24 with certain chronic conditions). You may have to wait in a long line to get it, but the health dept has clinics just about every weekend here.

Babies aren't allowed the shot until 6 months of age. In the US, at least where I'm from (California) it is available to health care workers, parents of infants under 6 months of age, and some others who fit the "at risk" catagories...I forgot what they all were. It has the basic side effects of other shots (slight fever, redness at the injection sight, etc) and the side effects happen to a relatively small amount of people.
