My son was born at 31 weeks and had what they called at the time apnea of prematurity. In the NICU he would desat but only needed intervention a few times to start breathing again so they called it self resolving and told us that he would outgrow it. After he left the NICU he continued to have spells but only like 1 a month and he was always breathing by the time we could get to him so still "self resolving" however I'm wondering how much the very loud alarm going off 5 feet from his head has to do with that...And now here we are 15 months later and he is still having spells. In fact since around 11 months they starting getting more frequent as often as 2 or 3 a week. His doctor has refered us to a polumonologist which he will see in August. Everything I have tried to look up makes this sound very rare and even the sleep disorder clinic that he will be going to sounded supprised that he still hasn't outgrown it. Has anyone else had a preemie with this issue? What was the prognosis? Were they able to do anything or were you just told to wait it out? Thanks in advance for any advice!!
