My little boy was born 11 weeks early weighting 2pound 13oz. I woke early with contractions my partner drove us to the nearest hospital 70 kms away, it was the longest drive. The hospital is in a little country town and they dont deliver babies but my son couldnt wait for the flying doctor to get there. The local doctor tried everything to stop him coming but he came anyway. I didnt look at him when he came out cause I didnt think he would be alive but then I heard the sweetest noise like a kitten meowing. He was alive and breathing on his own. Lucky the hospital had an incubator mind you it looked like it came out of the stone age,,we had to wait three hours for the flying doctors to pick us up and fly 400 kms to a big hospital. My 29 week old preemie was healthy and still breathing on his own, which impressed the doctors, he stayed that way, we stayed there for 5 weeks. He was fully breastfeeding when we left...he was a happy little boy and still is,,,Now hes 5yrs old and the only signs he was a 29 week old preemie are his eye lids are still a little transparent and scars from the iv on the back of his hands.

i don't see many people talk about having a 29 weeker and i was happy i found this post because my son came at 29 weeks and 5 days and weighed in at 3lbs 4ounces and 16 inches long :-).He had stayed 56 days in the hospital and the only thing he had to bring home with him was an apnea monitor but that was it.He is now 3 and is one inch from being as tall as his sister and above average on the growth chart at the doctors lol.If nobody ever told anyone he was born premie you couldn't tell.

If you have any more preemies I just read that you should leave the umbilical cord attached as long as possible after birth. It continues to deliver nutrients to the baby for as long as an hour.

My twin girls came at 30 weeks.. They say it's normal for twins to come early, but it was still a very scary situation to be in... My first born (2lbs 15oz), i never saw her, she wasn't breathing on her own, and my second born (2lbs 10oz), well i saw her for about 10 seconds before she was whisked away and both were on ventilators..
The youngest of the twins actually died 3 times on me, but the Dr's revived her everytime... Thank god.. They are now a healthy 7 and a half years old and going strong..... The only ongoing complications are that the youngest twin is partially deaf... I thank God everyday for being blessed with two beautiful girls.

My oldest son wa 42 weeks 7lbs 11oz.  I didn't have any problems with him. This is why it shocked my Doc when I had pre-e apparently you have it with your first if you are going to have it. They kept asking me if they had the same Daddy's (which they do).

I had pre-e. I had no idea I had it. I thought i had a gallstone. I had been having terrible back pain for a few weeks and talking to friends I had convinced myself it was a gallstone attack. I went to the hospital one night after my son and husband went to sleep figuring I would get an ultrasound and see the gallstone and send me home and tell me there was nothing they could do till I gave birth. BUT instead they took my blood pressure and said SORRY you aren't leaving. I was there 10 days got steriod shots and tons of blood pressure medicine but they couldn't keep it down it was over 200. They finally told me he had to come out. By the way the pain in the back and ribs was my liver and kidneys swelling and trying to shut down. It sucked and was scarey. I hadn't had an ultrasound yet so I didn't know if I was having a boy or girl or how big he was. I didn't have a clue I was coming in to stay or have a preemie so I didn't know anything about preemies. To me a preemie was 5lbs when they did the ultrasound and told me 2lbs I was so scared I was like no he can't be that small. Then they told me they hoped we would be here for  6 more weeks but I lasted only a few days. He came out emergency C-section and his little eyes were wide open. they let him stop by me for a few seconds before taking him to the NICU. it was scarey but I loved him so much and he did wonderfully.  I always wanted a girl but I am too scared to ever be pregnant again.

Sounds a lot like my little man. He was a 29 week old preemie, 2lbs 8oz and breathed on his own from the get go. Doc's were too impressed with him. We also stayed 5 weeks and he went home 3lbs 12oz. He is 9 months now and still breastfeeding strong!  I am so proud of that, I did have to pump for the first 4 months because my supply wasn't strong enough combined with he weak suck to give him enough at a time but he never had a drop of formula we breastfeed for practice and snacks and I pumped to give him more volume and then we successfully transitioned at 4 months. He had surgery at 3 months old for bilateral hernia but seems like a regular happy baby now. He is in 50% in both height and head for his actual age but is underweight for it but I think honestly he is not a 9 month old he is a 6.5 month old he was conceived at a certain date and just because he was born soon doesn't mean he existed any longer he just chose to grow outside. :)

Glad to hear your little man is doing great.
