yes his evaluations r done.i m waiting for the results.the pediatric eye specialist suggested a fundqass check up which can be done only under anaesthesia.i m not feeling comfortable about that.

It sounds like you might need to pursue an OT evaluation for possible fine motor issues. I would ask your pediatrician or healthcare provider for a recommendation of a local outpatient pediatric health clinic. Also, if you haven’t already done so, have your LO’s vision checked. It would be beneficial to have answers to your concerns before beginning Kindergarten.

I have twin boys who were 27 weeks premature they are 12 yrs old now and they still have developmental delays especially with fine motor skills it all has to with eye and hand cordinations..you may want to see if he needs occupational therapy and now in schools they have all the help a child needs without being left behind, one of my sons has mild cerebal palsy from lack of oxygen to brain which killed the nerve that controls muscle tones, motor skills, he's been working with OT's he also had surgery on his eyes to fix the muscles which he was getting cross eyes...and ever since been great!

need to get alot of toys that have to do with grasping like others said using pinching techniques will help with his grasping. play do will help with if he gets fatigue in the fingers almost like using a stress ball....

Kiran, if you have any opportunity to do so, I would get his eyesight checked by an opthamologist. This sounds like it could be ROP, Retinopathy of Prematurity, which is where the eyes develop wrong due to being premature (something to do with the retina). Many times, they can fix the problems with minor surgery, but it is imperative that he go soon since the eyes are so precious. As far as his motor skills issues, it might be the eyes that are the problem. If he can't see well, he can't see the blocks properly to stack them. If he can't see well, he might have troubles opening his bottle. But then, it also might be a dexterity issue. FYI -preemies are notorious for having dexterity issues, since their nervous systems still had to develop out of the womb. You might look into hiring a physical therapist to address these desterity issues, but no matter what, your son needs to get to a good eye doctor. My son sees a pediatric opthamologist to address his eye issues.

Just continue practicing the skills with him. Also try things like play dough it helps the mussels in the hands develop.

I don't think he will have problems at school. Let the teacher know and they should help out too. With the kids they won't care he is just someone for them to play with!!!

Hi Kiran my son was 25 weeker he has poor fine motor skills due to a defformity of his fingers. we do lots of games that involve fine motor skills like picking things up with big tweesersbuilding with blocks we used to use chunky crayons or chalks lots of practise , my son is six he struggles with holding a pencil so uses a special pencil grip it really doesnt bother him at all. Im sure your son will catch up in his own time, does he have glasses?
