Preemie doing some weird things? Anyone else

my son 10 months 8 adjusted laughs everytime i bite him. He cracks up too. Just think about it though, your personality plus his dads personality and thats wat u get!!!! lol. my som is like both of us

lol my daughter is crazy she closes her mouth real tight and breathes in and out of her nose really fast and then laughs hysterically, for a long time she went through a phase where she touched everything to her forhead and then put it in her mouth, she likes to crawl around the house and push things with her head, shakes her butt to the sound of the dishwasher, she tries to do everything with her feet, shoves food up her nose, just recently she has discovered that she can manipulate my hands so she makes me clap or puts food in my hand and tries to eat out of it like a dog lol and the list goes on and on, shes 15 months old and completely out of control! but definately hallarious.

My son, a 33 weeker, and he used to hit himself in the head when he was tired. I worried about his weird behavior, but he out grew it. He started doing it around 7 months and stopped around 15 months.

My son was a 33 weeker, and his weird thing is that he lays over toys when he's tired. He will find the most unfomfortable toy and lay over it. He's also pulled my baking sheets out of the cabinet and layed over them too lol.........

My daughter is almost 6 months old, but she knows how to pinch...and it's ALWAYS the back of the arm. It's a little odd for someone so small to be so aggressive I think. lol. Hoping she grows out of it.

my daughter is 13 mths now, born @24 wks, around 7mths she stared to throw her self back to be up side ddown it scares the crap out of me. she will scream sometimes until u put her upside down....... as you turn her upside down she giggles like those mooin gcows toys you turn upside down if you remeber those.

The sniffing...at least from what I'm told from my son's therapists (SP, PT, OT) is a sensory thing. Many preemies focus on one sensory or another. My son, 34wk'r who also had a birth defect requiring 2 major surgeries, spent 5 1/2 months in the NICU. He has many sensory issues...including, touch and taste. He still doesn't "eat" like a "normal" 13mos. old child, he's still on Stage 2 baby food and doesn't even finish a container in one sitting. We have a long feeding process ahead of us.
The only "weird" stuff he does is climb! He's all about climbing, but don't try to get him to walk...it's not going to happen! I guess climbing isn't that weird, but the fact that he'll do that, yet has no desire to "walk" is!

my little sister was no preemie, but she is 6 and she has ALWAYS sniffed things, she can take clean clothes out of the dryer, sniff them and tell you who they belong too. SHe will smell you and say "you smell like Cissy" They said she has sensory issues, they tested her at school for it.

I don't think it is weird. All kids learn how to do it. For some reason they find it amusing. The hard part comes when you are trying to teach them how to blow their nose because at first they sniff it in! Enjoy your child for who they are and what they are doing.

My son would completely freak out if the tune of the mockingbird song was sung, played or hummed near him. You know the one..."hush little baby..." It was apparently like fingernails on a chalkboard to him. He was 3 months preemie...he is now 3 and it doesn't seem to bug him at all.

All children do weird things at different times in thier lives. Its part of thier learning process and using their imaginations. Just tell ur nieghbours u dont like them calling ur child odd. I know i wouldnt. and if they have children they must have closed their eyes when they did "weird things" . Because all childrem do them! I have 4 girls and i cant even begin to tell u all the "weird things". Children are great entertainers,So just enjoy them and all the quirky little things they do. I still do!! One example-One of my twins alwaya had to lick everything, Now let me tell u she has licked some pretty gross stuff! But she never got sick from it, thank god! And after a while she moved on to something else that was weird. As ur child will too!

Well if it's any consolation my son Ethan was a 29 weeker and is 3 and 1/2 now and STILL has to "smell" any drink or food given to him :) Why , I have no idea . He also will not eat food much . He prefers pedia sure, juice period . He has good days an bad with his eating so on our next Dr. appt it is surely something I will have to discuss with the Dr. Ethan is hyper active and has several issues still I am trying so hard to work through with him. He is very smart, has great recall yet he does "strange" things still so I pray he outgrows it. He will be fine one day then the next slip back to using just "one" word over and over for what he wants , for example some days he will say "mom can you please get me some juice?" then other days he looks at me and screams "juice", "juice" so I am concerned as he is 3 and 1/2. . He seems to have boundless energy as well and can stay awake from 7 til midnight as I have to turn the lights out as he screams for a while. He talks incessantly and has temper tantrums too. They say there are parts of the brain that do not develop until up to 36 weeks gestation so in spite of the doctor's playing the "waiting" game with him I can't help but be concerned. My 2 older children were full term and nothing like him ! So if that is the only thing your child is displaying sounds like all is well :) Prayers to you both :)

My son, a week from being a year old, sticks his tongue out and "tastes" the air. Whenever we take him outside, he sticks his tongue out and kinda laps the air, like he's drinking it in. So cute!!

my little one's weird thing, keep in mind he's only almost 5 months old.. If I make the sound as if i'm crying, he'll pout his lips.. hahaha, but as soon as i stop making the noise, he stops & smiles. hahahaha, if you would like to see a short example.. its the video "cute baby makes faces" on youtube.com.. His names Aiden.. lol, we're trying to record a better video seeing as how this one was done after he'd been doing it for awhile, so it was when he started to want to stop.. lol! enjoyyyy..

My son likes to try to sniff things like flowers but that's normal but lucky for you your baby dosen't try to eat rocks and sticks and all the other unusual things. That and he likes to try to stick things in his ears and nose so be happy it is only just sniffing things.lol

My son does the exact same thing ! he used to do it when he was younger and has recently picked it back up. lol. it isn't odd at all, i think it is so cute and funny. Anyone who tells you it is odd, it out of their minds ! it is just another new thing they discovered they can do.

My cousin does this (only 30 days older than my son). We sniff at each other all the time. It's just something she does and it's HILARIOUS!
