One of my twins has gone from a birth weight of 4lb. 11oz to 19 lb at five months (off the charts). The other twin weighs 16 lb. and is in the 50%. They have similar height (50%). They eat the same (around 30 oz.). The only difference is that the bigger twin is taking roughly half of her 30 oz. from breast milk. The other twin refused the breast and I don't have enough to fully feed even one of them because of a variety of complications at birth and with my health.

They are happy and healthy. Both my husband and I are on the slim side. I'm freaking out because of this unusual weight gain. Our ped is befuddled and has referred us to a specialist. Any body has experienced anything like this?

This all sounds correct about the breastfeeding but it could also be from what you ate when you were pregnant. Lots of foods have hormones and other bad stuff and this is why kids hit puberty at an early age. This is something I would ask your doc

Hi Just wondering how your baby is now doing with weight gain and if you found any answers why? I have a premmie 5 month corrected in the same situation as yourself and am concerned.

From what I"ve heard (not from personal experience, nasty complications from a breast reconstruction surgery, he cut my milk ducts and lied to me about being able to breast feed) but anyway breast fed babies are usually larger than formula fed babies because it's so much easier to digest. But you can look on webmd.com about it if you're worried.

I don't have any answers for the vast difference between your twins. But I did have a 29-weeker who was breastfed and huge! She was above the 90th percentile for height and weight. She's 7 years old now and is still VERY tall - she's average height for a 9 y.o.!

Also wanted to say that breastmilk is much more easily digested than formula. The body is more efficient at putting BM calories to use, so that prob has at least something to do with the weight gain.
