PVL/Cyst?

My son initially had a brain scan at one week after birth, 31wks+ that revealed a minor grade 1 brain bleed on his right ventricle. they weren't worried but wanted to follow up. they did one other and it showed it was resolving itself. then this past week they did another which showed it was completely gone however they can now see two or three small cysts in his brain. they are on the sides and are pretty small when i compare it to other pictures i look at online.

the frustrating and scary thing is that it's all unknown how this will affect him. of course, cerebral palsy is brought up and its so scary. i know there are very mild to severe ranges. i know that having cysts doesnt guarantee that anything will even be affected. i am just wanting to hear from moms with experience. i am praying that my baby's brain heals completely and that he will have a happy healthy and normal life...and be able to run and dance and jump and play. more than anything!

after all he has been through, with the loss of his brother and having to be born so early...i really hope he gets a nice big dish of good luck.

If you see this, leave this form field blank.

thanks. I hope we have a similar scenario. we are already setting up early intervention and physical and developmental therapy will start coming to our house shortly after he is home. im very excited about the idea of making sure he has the best chance possible.

We also suffered bilateral bleeds Grade III and IV with PVL - my son is now 3 with Mild CP and most people are unaware there is an issue. He is running, talking and climbing on the playground like the rest of the kids. His balance may be a bit less and speed is a bit less, but he is doing wonderfully. I would recommend if you qualify for state therapy services using them to make sure nothing gets missed. In our state it is called Birth to Three.
