Stma closure after NEC???

hello, my baby girl is due to into surgery on monday to have her stoma closure procedure after having a nasty episode of NEC as a prem baby. I just wondered how you coped with the stress and how your experience was, if you don't mind sharing. things like how long was the surgery, did you hold baby whilst they were put to sleep or cuddle them in their cot?? would really appreciate any positive comments as am stressing myself out alot at the minute. Really trying not to and I have complete trust in her surgical team I just wish she didn't need anything doing :) i'm sure you know what I mean.

Hi there. My daughter was born at 27 weeks and developed NEC at 11 days old. She also had a stoma for about 6 weeks. I was happy for her re-attachment surgery, but it was also stressful...She had been off a ventilator for a long time and doing well, so it almost felt like she was backtracking. After her surgery she was very lethargic, it took her a few days to come out of the anesthesia and get back off the vent. It was stressful and it was scary but really, the hard part is definitely behind her (and you!) now.

They let me hold her before they took her back to surgery. I walked with her nurse as they pushed her bassinet to the surgical suite...it was so hard for me...I don't even remember how long the surgery actually took, it seemed like a few hours tho.

I was surprised that more of her colon had to be removed during the attachment procedure...All in all she's lost over half of her intestines...She is doing quite well now though!

My daughter was in the NICU for about 3 months and it's still really hard for me to think about it and remember all we went through...Just know that it will all be over soon and you'll have your baby girl home! If you need someone to talk to someone feel free to send me a message :)
