My daughter was born at 33w4d. She has done amazing not requiring any oxygen or antibiotics or anything really however has had tons of bradicardias without lowering o2 or resps and they are always self resolved. Does anyone know what could be going on? They are calling in a ped cardiologist to double check becuase of the number of occurances however dont beleive there is anything seriously wrong because shes very healthy and meeting all her other goals. The only other concern is after her weighing last night she has now total almost lost a full lb going from 5lbs 3 oz to 4 lbs 4 oz. This seems like a lot to me. Shes still only on 15cc of formula every 3 hrs im thinking maybe if they double this it would help. Any suggestions

She developed asthma and has flat feet. She is doing great, considering they told us she would never leave the hospital. She came home at 13 days old.

All babies have brady's. As long as she is perfectly healthy other wise and she brings herself out of the bradys then I wouldn't worry. If she was just born then of course she will lose weight because it's the water weight. If she is older then a few weeks now then I would definitely worry about her losing weight. When my son was born premature they told me that they didn't want preemies to loose to much water weight because they were already small in the first place and if they loose more weight then it will be harder for them to hold their own temperature. I would talk to them about bumping up her feedings.

Preemies do this they lose weight and then they start to gain. both my son and daughter did this. My son almost 13 was born 6 weeks early at 2lbs 14 oz... he went down to 2 9 and gained up to 3.2 and was released to go home at that weight. My daughter born 10 weeks early at 2 lbs 15 oz also lost weight and then gained it. Went home near 5lbs. Give it some time. You don't want to overfeed her because she will vomit. Hang it there and just watch her progress. Forget about the weight loss... show her love and she will blossom quickly... :)

One of my preemie twins born at 30w to the day, weighing 2lb 7oz, had quite bad Bradicardias he didn't always bring himself back, sometimes he needed help. He ended up on Caffine, this worked a treat. It's really common for preemies to have bradicardias.
On the food intake, I wouldn't worry, they all loose a bit of weight after birth, that's normal and I wouldn't be worried about how much she is getting, as long as she is handling food it's all good. The Dr's and Nurses know what they are doing and why they are doing it, just have a chat to one of them to put your mind at rest. Don't forget they have seen this all before, for us it's all new. Good Luck with your precious baby.

The weight lost is normal is what they told me with my son as long as the baby is feeding.

I have two preemie babies. Mason (the oldest) was 32 weeks when he was born. and he was doing very well in the nicu he was only in there for 24 days. when he was born he went from 4lbs 2 oz to 3lbs 4 oz. in one night. the nurses said he was normal.. but my little kayden bug was born at 29 weeks he was in the nicu for 48 days, he had the cardiabraic spells and they had to force pressurized oxygen into his lungs... it was the scariest thing in the world. to this day, he is 4 months old and is still 9lbs 15 oz.

My daughter Nicole was born at 34w2d old. She weighed 4' 12 oz. She lost down to 3' 3 oz. She had an infection. Her lungs and stomach wasn't developed when she was born, but she came home at 13 days old. I will pray that everything is ok with your baby. My daughter had alot of trouble the first two years of her life. She is now soon to be 15 years and her only problems are flat feet and asthma. Good luck to you and your baby.

how long ago did you have her? 33 weeks is very early and frequent brady's are unfortunately part of the torture of the nicu, especially when our babies are born so early. they will always double check to make sure her PDA has closed and whatnot but it doesn't sound out of the ordinary...she will grow out of them, promise! 15cc doesn't sound like a lot for her weight, but they will increase it rapidly as long as she's dirtying her diaper regularly. i don't remember how much mmy son was on when he was that weight, but i think it was more than 15...anyway, make sure you talk to the nurse and/or catch the doctor doing rounds if you can and be your baby's voice. you can always ask them about it. they are probably just taking it slow with her digestive system, but it doesn't hurt to ask!

My daughter was the same way, the nicu up here in maine wasn't surprised by it they perfer to see them loose weight at first shows everything is working right (digestive bowels etc). My daughter would also brady but bring herself back up, have they given her caffiene? She'll come out of it soon I'm sure. They just need to get the flow down; do it at the same time. "Get their act together" as one of the doctors say. Hopefully she won't have to be there long my daughter had those issues and was in there for 19 days..good luck though :)
