What was the problem that made the delivery early?

my daughter was born early because I had a shortened cervix....normal cervix theysaid is 3-4cm~~ mine was 1.5 then it went down to 5.5 mm then finally at 4mm~~ it hurt I could not do ANYTHING I was on bedrest for almost 6wks~~ 20mins of pushing and Arianna was here I will NEVER regret going into that hospital and getting admitted I believe that is what saved my daughter~~ they tried everything a pessory( aplastic piece that holds ur uterus up) and that did NOT work it was causing me SEVERE pain.... got shots pegesterone all kinds of things but she wanted to come out early and she is doing GREAT

I went for a check-up and was induced an hour later. I had severe pre-eclampsia and HELLP syndrome. My son was born 5 weeks early, but breathing and eating on his own. He never spent any time in the NICU and he came home with me 4 days after birth!

PS. I hade two other girls that didn't make it to 40 weeks either. But since they were past the 35 week mark, they aren't considered true preemies. My second child was born at 37 weeks and the last one was at 38 weeks. I don't think I could survive a full 40 weeks!

My daughter was born at 32 weeks. 6 days before that, I developed a "high" leak in my amniotic fluid. This means that it was leaking at the top of the sac causing a continous trickle of fluid. I was put in the hospital due to risk of infection. I would have been there for up to 8 weeks. I went into labor after 6 days. There is no known cause or explaination.

I went into labor at 22 weeks with my twin girls due to an incompetant cervix. I held out until I hit 23 weeks, though, before delivering my first girl at 1 lb. 3 oz, 11.5 in. Her sister was born the next day at 1 lb. 5 oz, 12 in. My first born had a lot of scares during her four month NICU stay, including eye surgery for ROP, but is two now and doing great. Besides being very petite, you'd never know the how hard she fought to be here. My second born is now her sister's guardian angel. She past away three weeks after birth due to preemie complecations, NEC.

My daughter was born at 34 weeks due to my water breaking after a fall down my college campus stairs and a shortened cervix due to the LEEP procedure i had done 5 months before i got pregnant. also my ob said since i was a premie i already had a high risk of having a preemie myself

I had an Aging Placenta. It is most common in Older mothers, Smokers, and Drug Abusers. i don't fit the criteria...but I had it. What it is is that the placenta ages faster than the baby and at some point along the pregnancy, the placenta stops giving nutrition to the baby. The doctors had to figure out if it would be better for the baby if she was out or in...it depended on when the placenta would stop giving her nutrition. It was better for her to be in because she was still getting what she needed from the placenta. I was in labor at 33 weeks and it was stopped than was in labor again at 35 weeks and gave birth to my little girl that time =]

Hi, I Had My 1st Son Keehan At 34 Weeks .. My Water Ruptured At 30 Weeks And I Had To Be Induced At 34 Weeks Due To No Fluid And I Had A Infection Caused By No Fluid Around Bub. My 2nd Son Chayse I Had The Exact Same Problem .. Water Ruptured At 35 Weeks And I Was Induced At 36 Weeks Due To Infection.

They Docs don't know why I gave birth early. my son came at 33weeks. I woke up at 4am with back labor pains, i thought they were just practice contractions, so I didn't do anything. When 8am hit i still was having them and a little spotting happened. So i called the drs, they sent me to the hospital. They gave me a shot for his lungs to help boost them, and gave me meds to slow down the birth. But nothing helped my little man came at 11pm that night. And what kills me is that they were so worried about stopping it that by the time they checked me to see how far i was, it was to late to give me anything so it was natural no meds. He had to stay in the NICU for 3 weeks and now hes 15monts

Hi,

My water broke at 29 weeks due to me having a split uterus, bicorneute I think it's called. That leaves 50% room for the baby to grown so it became very tight for the baby. I managed to keep fluid levels up by being on bed rest in the hospital for 3 weeks so my son and labor came naturally at 32 weeks. He was in NICU for " months, but is doing great now at almost 8 months : )

We had 2 babies in one year our first baby was 5 lbs 15ozs he was early and it was cause i have rsd and a seizure disorder so it was for his sake to get him out and he was small I thought at first since my first born was 7lbs 11ozs then 10months later we had a little girl at 34 weeks and she was small very small 3lbs 10ozs and she stayed in nicu for 18 days cause of alot of my health reason and hers but she is doing better now . But now we have 2 9 year olds at home a 1 year old boy and our sweet little 3 month old girl who is tiny . Our 9 year olds think they are helpers but they are not they make more of a mess then anything (Oh the 2nd 9 year old in my step daughter)

i went in to labor 6 weeks early with my son, doctors still dont know why all the tests they performed were normal i fluid wasnt leaking or anything..until my water broke outta no where, he spent a total of one day in the nicu dude to breathing issue he was 5lbs 6.6 oz at birth if he was to go to full term he would have been at least 10 lbs. and im a small women only 120 and 5'2" tall. no romeo is a normal 16 month old, wouldnt think he was a preemie

My son was 6 weeks early due to severe pre-eclampsia and IUGR. He weighed 3# 6oz. and stayed in the NICU for 3 weeks. The rule is the baby must weigh 4# to leave the hospital and that day he weighed 4# 1oz. I felt like it was Christmas when he came home. Especially since he came home without any lasting health problems. I thank my stars every day for my healthy, happy, little miracle.

My first pregnancy, my daughter Jaz, was completely normal until I woke up at 7 am and my water had burst - i was at 24 weeks. They life flighted us to a hosp that could help us w/ in 2 hours. We managed to keep her in for another week, but due to low fluid and fetal distress they took her in an emeregency c section. She was 1lb 10oz and her right arm was blue due to laying on that side with so little fluid - that went away shortly. She was immediately intabated and we spent 3 1/2 months at that NICU - one lung collapsed on 2nd day and a multitude of other problems throughout that time. She is now 8 years old and has outgrown most problems but still has a weaker immune system. The doctors don't know if it was seperation of placenta from uterus or infection that caused premature birth. No way to know which happened first.

My second daughter was born at 37 weeks - i couldn't go into contractions even due to the type of csect i had w/ Jaz. She had no problems at birth but at 3 months started having seizures. She is now 5 and still has seizures and a host of other problems. But both were definately worth it!!

My daughter was born at 26 weeks because they think there was a blood clot in the umbilical cord. There was low amniotic fluid, and the blood flow was going backward. She was 1 pound 2 ounces. She is 11 weeks old now, and still in the NICU. We don't know when she will be getting out.

I had a placental abruption that caused my son to go into fetal distress, he was delivered by emergency c-section at 25 weeks. He weighed 1lb 15 oz. He was very sick for a long time. Heart condition, lung disease, hydrachephalus, multiple surgeries, he came home on oxygen x3 years. He is 7 now, he still has many medical issues however is much better. He is a beautiful little boy!!!

I to had a yeast infection and ended up delivering at 24 weeks, after a week in the hospital. Ella was 1 lb 15 oz and today she is a average 4 yr old doin great in preschool.

My daughter was born at 26 weeks and she just turned 8 in November. I started bleeding at 19 weeks and they determined I had a complete previa so I was admitted and after 24 hours was sent home on strict bedrest. I kept having bleeding episodes and was in and out of the hospital until finally at 25 weeks I had another episode and insisted they keep me in the hospital until I delivered. Also preterm labour set in at 24 weeks thus creating more problems.
The week before she was born they had me on terbutaline, indocin and finally mag sulfate to try and stop contractions. I went on the mag Halloween morning and by that evening I felt so horrible, fast forward two days later and I couldn't even handle moving my own weight to shift my position in bed, my bp dropped to 68/36 and I was white as a ghost. They decided to take me for a doppler ultrasound on the umbilical cord and then bring me back to finish breakfast, I ended up getting sent to L&D instead to be prepped for an amniocentesis after the ultrasound. The fluid was the colour of watered down cola indicating an infection. I started having worse pain after the amnio and they decided I was at risk of an abruption. I spent the day on L&D while they made up their minds if they were going to deliver or not. My OB came over after office hours and he made the call to deliver via C section and oredered them to turn off the mag which by this time was turned up to 100%.
Anesthesia came in to discuss spinals with me which I did not want and not 5 minutes after he left I thought my water had broke, I knew by my mom's face and the way she ran out of the room screaming that it was way worse than that. Turns out I did abrupt and I was hemmorhaging severely, the semi calm C section became an emergency with general anesthesia and my daughter was born at 1 pound 11 ounces and breathing on her own but she had to be intubated at 5 minutes old because she wasn't strong enough to do it all on her own. She was transferred that night to the children's hospital because she needed a level 3 NICU.
It turned out that on top of the previa that never shifted there was also a problem with the blood flow through her cord which they found on the doppler and the amnio was merely to assess her lung function since they had given me the steroid shots but they ended up finding infection instead and the final straw was the abruption.
In the NICU she had a grade II IVH, RDS which in turn became BPD due to the damage from the vent, PDA, ROP and GERD.
We found out last year that she does have some areas of PVL from the brain bleed and that part of her brain is not developed correctly, she does have mild CP. She also has asthma, still struggling with reflux and ADHD was discovered when she entered school.
We are very thankful she is here given the tough start she had. Thanks for reading my book.

My daughter Alyssa was born in April 97 at 34 wks due to complications of her breathing and non-responsive during stress test. She was born with Trisomy 22 (Emanuel Syndrome) which caused many complications for her. She had developed NEC,surgery for PDA,g-tube,broviac catheter and many more. Unfortunately she passed away at 5months old from many complications. We miss her everyday especially around the holidays.

Hi! My son was born at 24wks weighin in at an unbelievable 1lb 3oz! He is 10 now, but the we had a lot of scares in the beginning, bleeding in the brain, eye surgery, and he came home with a trach for about 1 year. You would never know it now, Yes they sure are lil miracles! I cant wait till he's old enough to actually grasp the severity of it all!

My problem was not discoverd until 8years later when I became pregnant with my daughter! All those years wondering....Blaming myself for the unknown...My uterus will not close as it should when I conceived, which resulted in me goin to the dr. every week after wk 15 with my daughter to get a shot in my hip, ugh! And sure enough, 2 wks after we stopped shots, I was in labor! I'm happy to finally know the answer, but it is a disappointment to hear that I couldnt hold a baby in me...seeing that we are woman and made to do just that....thnx for reading my story!

My water broke at 18 weeks with my first son, 1lb13.5oz, water broke at 20 wks with my daughter. The doctor said I was in Preterm labor and had cerclages put in, you know where the tie your uterus to keep the baby in, two preemies, it was rough, wanted a normal preganancy but your right they are blessns

I caught a staph infection in my blood, it's called MRSA. i was very sick and one day the doctor's were trying to wake me up because my breathing was low, good thing i woke up because they were about to put me on a ventilator. I had our baby girl Amauri at 25 weeks, she weighed 1 lb and 4 ozs. She was doing really well until she caught an infection in her intestines called NEC. My daughter passed away on 1/19.09 at 5 weeks old, this was the day before my birthday. Needless to say, I didn't have a happy birthday. Her birthday is coming up on December 11 and I feel so sad that she isn't here. I can say it was a blessing having her in our lives for those beautiful 5 weeks.

I had my first son early at 35 weeks because of pre term labor that couldnt be stopped and my second son for the same! We are guessing incompetant cervix? My first son had complications and the 2nd was fine!

In the end, I had my son at 28 weeks due to a uterine infection after his amniotic sac had been broken for 10 days. I had lots of complications and was in the hospital on bedrest, including his identical twin had passed away at 24 weeks due to twin-to-twin transfusion. I started leaking his fluid after having in-utero surgery for the TTTS and ended up in the hospital. He'll be 1 year old on Christmas Eve and is doing fabulous!

i had my son at 30 weeks they said his was 29 weeks when he came out.... my pluctaina was covering my cervix so i was at risk.... but i didn't know y tho they told me that i have to a c section and i wa freak out wen the dr said that but it would be a chance that it can shift up a lil but it didn't and i went dr again and after that dr appt that night i was having problems i was using the bathroom then after that i throw up i thought that i pee on myself so i sat in the tolite and i was bleeding so bad that i thought that i lost the baby but i didn't he was fine but i wasn't so i went to the er and it was just a little tear in my pluctina... buti was in the hosptail for 2 days after that they wanted me to stay there to see how i am doing they i had more problems my blood presser was sp high they didn't knw what to do they where giving me everything to clam it down but it didn't work so they gave me some steriods for the baby lung to be more better they after that i couldn't breath there was something that was covering my chest so they did the engerices c section and when they did that day later they told me that i had a frybrobe in my uters thats like a bold up tuisse its been there for so long i didn;t even know and wheni had alot of untralsounds the dr didn't tell me that too so i freak out my son was 3lbs 5oz 16in long but now her is 5 months been home for 2 months now and he looking great i wa so bless

My son was born at 28 weeks due to Pregnancy Induced Hypertension and pre-eclampsia, the fluid around him was also low when I went to the hospital. He's doing just fine. will be 5 months on the 10. Very Healthy

My son was early due to the fact that I am so samll framed is what they said.. My daughter was early due to Gastroschisis and VERY VERY LOW amniotic fluid.. They are not sure how she was still alive.. The AF was at 3% the lowest they like it to get is 5% to 6%.. So when i went in on 3-29-09 they told be they would watch her and do another ultrasound in the morning to check things over, well when High Risk Doctor's came in they just asked me if i was ready to have her and I said what ever is the safest for her.. she was born at 36 week and was 3lb 8oz and 16in long... he was born at 37 weeks and was 6lbs and 19 3/4in long...
