I was 27 weeks along I went into labor, they could not stop my contractions no matter what they did, The had to do a c'section on me, my late son was in the breech position , He weigh 1 lb, 15 1/2 inches long 14 oz. the doctors said he would not make it. He lived 7 hours and passed away in my arms,, this was in 1988, but now days they have more knowledge and better doctors.

My middle daughter was born a week early out of the other 2, she did great 7 lb. 6.5 oz, 20 inches long.

Best wishes, make sure they keep her in the incubator , they did not keep my son in one and that was what killed him.

I had HELLP with both of my kids. Daughter born at 32 weeks weighing 5 lbs 11 ozs. and son at 29 weeks weighing 3 lbs 10 ozs. My daughter was by emergency c-section since it went un diagnosed until I went in for my appointment and had gained 30+ lbs since the prior month appointment. With my son the Dr. was watching my like a hawk with blood work every week and caught it early so I could get all the steroids for his lungs.

My baby boy was born 25weeks. We have no idea why my water broke. I was told I had to stay in the hospital till I had him. It only lasted one week. His umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck twice and heart rate dropped, so the took him emergency c section. He weighed 1lb 8oz 13in. It took the Dr's 2 and half minutes of CPR to resuscitate him. He had 8 surgeries before he was 1. And he also had many procedures under annesticia. He had a PDA closure, 3hernias, rectal atresia, colostomy bag, which was off at 11 months, paralyzed vocal cord, and a many more things. He is doing very well now. He does wear foot braces for some issues, and his speech is delayed. He talks but not a lot. He's is speech and pt right now.

My son was born at 33 weeks weighing only 2 pounds 14 ounces and was 15.25 inches long. I had to deliever my son early due to the fact i had severe pre eclampsia and i had the rarest form of HELLP syndrome where your red blood cells attack you platelets kidneys and liver. I had to have an emergency c-section and a blood transfusion. 6 bags of blood and 6 bags of platelets. my son was in the NICU 32 days. He is now home on an apnea monitor doing wonderfully!

I had my daughter at 33 weeks gestation, (7 weeks early), because i had preeclampsia. Preeclampsia, (for those who aren't sure), is something certain pregnant women get in later pregnancy. It is associated with high blood pressure and protein in your urine. Over 10,000 babies die every year in the U.S. because of it because it cuts off nurtition to your baby. It can also kill the mother. My daughter and I could have died. I was hospitalized a week before i had my daughter...and my blood pressure was in the high 180's. I had an emergency c-section at exactly 33 weeks the next morning. Jordyn was born at 3lbs 12 oz. She was in the NICU for 3 weeks and then got to come home at 36 weeks gestation.

My daughter Gabby was born at 34 weeks by emergency c- section. I was in labor for 1& 1/2 weeks prior to her birth. I had already had a c-section with my first daughter. The site of my prior c-section was tearing open so they decided that a c-section would save both of our lives . She was born weighing 6lbs 5 oz. quite large but i had diabetes while pregnant. well controlled . She was able to come home with me but she had lost quite a bit of weight. She weighted only 4lbs 10 oz.. when we were released from the hospital . Twice a week weight checks for the first 3 months . Around the clock feedings(breast and high calorie formula ) Today she is 3years and 8 months old. She has developmental issues and has been diagnosed with several anxiety disorders. But she is my amazing little girl . She is funny and vibrant . I push all parents of preemies to be an advocate for your children. If you fell like something is just not right with your child push the doctors to do something about it. By age 9 months old my daughter Gabby just wasn't doing things she should even for her corrected age so I contacted Early Intervention. She was in the program until she was 3 and now we go to counseling once a week. She has sensory integration issues and I am still advocating for her to receive more help . As a parent of a preemie I do not want my child to always be behind so I want to get her the help while she is young and long term prognosis can be greatly influenced.

Hey ciera, i two had 3 premmie babies my boys were both born
At 32 weeks and my daughter at 25 weeks, doctors don't know why but
I have given up on having anymore just incase. My oldest boy was on oxygen for half An hour, my second boy didnt need any oxygen an my daughter was on home oxygen until she was 3. I'm very lucky none of my kids have any health problems but my daughter does have learning difficulties with reading, spelling and is very small for her age but beside this all are healthy. Glad to see your baby boy is doing ok, premmies are the most beautiful thing with everything they go through they are little fighters😀

My son was born on 12/1/12 at 27 weeks because my water broke at 21 weeks and at 23 I was admitted with no fluid and in labor, told I would deliver within 4 days but on day 4, my labor miraculously stopped and I managed to hold off with little to no fluid while on hospital bedrest for 4 weeks until I had abruption at 27 and delivered via emergency csection. HE spent 78 days in the NICU and came home on oxygen and special high calorie diet for dropping off of his already low growth curve. He is actually my 3rd preemie, but my only micropreemie. I have 4 year old b/g twins born at 36 weeks and a 2 year old daughter born full term at 39. The twins were in the NICU for 10 days learning to breathe, eat and grow. Jaxon had a LOT of complications but now at 18 weeks old and 8lb 11oz, he has severe BPD and hypertonia and growth issues but otherwise is doing very well.

My lo was born 26+3 at 1 lb 2oz. He was IUGR with his umbilical cord wrapped twice around his neck. My placenta stopped providing for him. There is no known reason for my placental problems. But I believe it was due to diet pills that I was taking around his conception. He is currently in the NICU. 63 days on the oscillator/conventional ventilator and currently on cpap.

Ihave three daughters ages 18, 19, and 22. I don't know the reason for all three of my girls to be born early but my oldest was born two weeks ealrly and my middle was born 2 months early. She was 3lbs 1 oz it was scarry. she had to have oxygen put to her. She now has Autism. My youngest came out good. She was born at 1 month early but they stopped the contractions ao they could develope her lungs and boy she came out screaming. I think one of the reasons for them being born early beacuse I'm underweight.

My daughter was born at 26 weeks weighing 970g.

I was carrying twins, but her sister passed away at 20 weeks and I still had to carry her. My deceased baby was sitting right over my cervix which made it get inflamed and irritated over the 6 weeks which sent me into early labour.

I gave birth to my angel naturally in the morning, then needed an emergency c-section for my other girl that evening.

She is 28+5 weeks old now and doing ok, besides some breathing issues.

I had my son at 30.6 due to stress. When I was in my 25th week our apartment burned down and we lost everything - including my cats. We stayed on a friend's floor and I continued to work nightshifts. We found an apartment after a month of searching and my body couldn't take it anymore. One night at work I was serving drinks, the next I was calling an ambulance; I'd been in labor all day. I had my son right after arriving at the hospital. That time period was the hardest of my life.

I had the same kind of thing but because my first 2 were born at 32 weeks
When I found out i was expecting twins the doctor was going to put in a stitch but the week
Before i went into early labour at 20 weeks during a scan they found only 1 heartbeat and my stillborn daughter was born a week later. After i delivered her the placenta stayed in so i was put on a drip an given steroid shots an my daughter was born at 25 weeks weighing 750g. She was on oxygen until about 2 years old but is now turning 13 this year an besides being tiny for her age she could past for a 8 year old she is healthy with no problems no asthma nothing so were very lucky. Doctors still don't know why I go into labour early but as i have 3 healthy kids I've been told to not have anymore an with everything i went through i agree with the doctors. Loosing a baby is so hard as to this day i blame myself because my body couldn't handle being pregnant

All 3 of boys were early my oldest was at 32 weeks due to HELLP syndrome (severe preeclampsia), 4 lbs 10 oz. My other two were born at 35 weeks(He weighed 5lbs) and my youngest who is three was born at 33 weeks. (5 lbs 15 oz), the youngest two I was told they were early because I had a bicornuate uterus and my water broke with them both. Probably a good thing because my platelets were getting low with the other two.

When I came back a few days later I was allready 90% efaced and 1 cm dialated. They hospitalized me for a week. I asked the nurse to get something for me and she told me to get it myself. When I got up my water broke. It was awful.

I also had severe Pre-E with HELLP syndrome; however, my first 2 trimesters were perfect with no problems, and at the start of my 3rd trimester I had a routine doctor appt, no HELLP symptoms, but my OB caught it- it was so sudden and severe I was almost in liver failure. My son was delivered 8 hours later. (He is now 11 months, 20 lbs 11 oz, 29 1/4 inches.)

My youngest was born at 27 weeks and died from hypoxia within an hour of birth. She was 2 lbs 9 ozs.

The doctors don't know why I have preterm labour but have been told that it is likely if I have any more children.

I had a really stupid doctor who spent two full days INDUCING a 34 week preemie because he was sure that my dates were wrong and thought I was post term. Then, when he held my baby in his hands - KNOWING he was premature - he had a crisis of conscience. Instead of taking my son to the NICU for IV and oxygen, he took him to the nursery, said the apgar scores were 8 and 9 and then sent my husband home. That led to 5-1/2 months in the NICU and 25 years of multiple disabilities. So it goes.

I had preeclampsia. Baby was IUGR, born at 30 weeks and weighing only 840 gms (1.848 lbs). I was admitted in the hospital when I was 25 weeks and stayed there till I deliver the baby at 30 weeks. My baby was only 550 gms when I was 25 weeks. With God's help and my baby's determination to live, we were spared the time and she grew more by age and weight which are very vital for her survival and development. The ultrasound showed on Monday morning a complete absence of blood flow coming to the umbilical cord to the baby. The only sign that doctors are waiting for to deliver me. She's 4 months old, actual age; 2 months old, corrected age. She's 3.57 kg now.

My daughter was born at 26 weeks on June.23.2012, she weighed 1lb 14oz and was 14in long. Thanks to my short cervix i was on bed rest 2 months, and 1 month in the hospital before her birth. My cervix was funneling so her sac was kind of dangling which caused it to leak and BOOM there she was.

Miriam, I am so very sorry to hear about your son. To answer your questions, I am 38 and have 4 children. The doctors never figured out what caused my water to break so early with this one. However, I leaked fluid with my 1st and 3rd and was induced as well with them. I know that know one can tell you for sure that it will not happen again, but if you do get pregnant again just take it very easy. I will never know what caused mine to break, but I was probably a little more active than I needed it be considering my history with leaking. I will keep you in my prayers.

Hi Cissi, may I ask you something? Did the doctors tell you why your water broke? Do you have more children? how old are you?.... I had something similar, my water broke when I was 34 weeks (May 10th 2012), but also hypertonic uterus that caused a small placenta abruption, causing lack of oxygen- but all this caused by the water broke. I had an emergency C-section. My son was 17 days in the NICU but didn´t maike it...I just wish that this won´t happen again. I´m 33 years old.

wow that must have been difficult - what could have made the experience better?

Would love to know...not sure if you saw my post...

Greetings!

I am a student looking to better understand the needs of parents with premature babies.

Specifically I am hoping to understand what your experience in the NICU and post-NICU was like and what you wish could have been better.

I, myself, have a number of close friends who have had premature sons and daughters and, as such, this topic is near and dear to my heart.

If you could be so kind to take ~5 min or less to fill out this quick survey it would be incredibly helpful to guide my research.

My daughter was delivered at 34 weeks with an emergency c-section because I had preeclampsia. She weighed three pounds even when she was born. Poor thing was underweight because of my sickness. I knew there was something wrong when I stopped getting bigger after thirty weeks. Then I started having severe pain under my right rib cage, and let me tell you, it was the worst pain that I could have imagined. Glad it is all over. My son was born at 28 weeks. My water broke the day I turned 28 weeks after I had my rogahm shot. When I went to the hospital the guy nurse was like there is no way your in labor but I was. I had to deliver him by c-section cause he was breached and had one foot already coming out by the time they checked me and found out I was in Labor. He was 3 lbs 3.6 oz. and 15 1/4 inches. He was in NICU for 2 months and had a lot of problems along the way. But he is now going to be 4 on the 28th of this month. He still has trouble with his breathing especially through the winter time. But most people cant believe he was even born a premi. Cause he is growing so well and doing good. I know its scary to have a child early. Then when I got pregnant with my daughter every little thing scared me cause I though I was going to have her early and she only came 6 days early. Now im pregnant again and they have had me at high risk but I have carried him all the way and will have him Thursday. So they never could figure out what I had my son so early.
