my son was born at 30 weeks as well. he was 3 lbs. 8 oz. He started to crawl ON his first birthday(9 1/2 months corrected age). i wouldnt worry AT ALL. not only is his corrected age 6 months, but all babies are different. some full term babies dont even crawl till 12 months . it all depends on when he is ready. i was saying the same thing...but take it from a person who has a SUPER ACTIVE little boy....its nice when they dont crawl...u can sit them there and they will be right where you put them when you turn around. my son is a manic....but its so much fun. it is such an exciting thing watching them develop and do new things.
preemies take a little bit longer to do everything. they say that preemies catch up USUALLY around the age of 2 years old.
good luck!!!! hope to know when he crawls :)

My daughter was born 5 weeks early. She weight a little over 4 pounds. She didn't start crawling until she was 10 months. She just turned one and is not interested in walking that much either. He will at his own time. I wouldn't be worried.

Some children never crawl. Both my kids see a developmental ped as part pof their neonatal preemie care. My daughter never crawled, skipped straight to walking at 16 months. Doc said she often doesn't see it as a milestone on it's own as so many children skip this step entirely. My son is 8 months one week and no where near crawling.

my son hardly crawled he did more of a army kinda crawl never really picked his tummy off the gronud and at first he would try rolling to his destination.lol, but he started doing that after he was 9 months, so u have nothing to worry about cause watch by the time he is walking he will know alot more, it seemed like after we moved last year my son has learned the most he knows how to climb in and out of chairs and on beds and ect, and he will only be 2 at the end of may. Before his first b-day came I was starting to worry a little bit but after he started walking at 14 months then he started to progress more alot more.lol, hope it helps. :-)

My son started crawling at about 10 months. He was born at 34 weeks, 6 days... so I would not be worried at all.

My daughter a 31 weeker now 8 months/ 6 months corrected she does a yoga pose hands and feet on the floor bottom as high as she can, she thinks she is crawling and squeals with delight. I am in no way concerned and even if she did not move for 12/15 months I'd have no problem. A friend of mine has a full term 1year old who doesn't move at all - Good luck with your lad focus on his fine motor skills as they are far more important.

My baby was born at 26 weeks and she weighed 1lb. 9.5oz. she is going to be one on April 28. She did not start to crawl until she was 10 months old (7 corrected). You just have to be patient, your baby will crawl when he wants to. If you are concerned at all, I would ask your doctor about it, he can hook you up with a physical therapist.

My son is 11 months and still not crawling. I'm not concerned though as he only started sitting up on his own at 9 months. The paedrician said some babies go straight from sitting to walking. He is already standing up supported.

My son was 14 weeks early 2lbs 5oz. He turned 1 Nov 29 09 and Crawled Dec 7 09 which is exactly 9 months after his due date. He was actually doing the holding of your fingers walking before he actually crawled. I kept telling my Lil Sis (13) that he needed to learn to crawl first and I was so worried he wouldnt well....now he does and he is everywhere. Now he is almost 17 months (a lil over 13 adjusted) and he isnt walking yet but we have noticed he has picked up other lil things and talking which Ive been told is totally normal.
We just need to keep in mind that every child is different and he or she will learn at their own pace. Ive been having a hard time with him not walking but then I step back and look at all he can do and he does a lot. I know kids that are older and they cant do some of what he does. Dont worry your lil one will get it.

My daughter was a 32 weeker and didn't crawl until 10 months and walk until 15 months. Our Ped told us as long as she started walking by 18 months she wouldn't be considered behind....

same thing with my daughter she was born @ 26 weeks ( 10 months 7 gestational age) and she prefers the army crawl, she takes a few regular "steps" on all fours but then lets herself fall on her tummy.

My son was a 35 1/2 week preemie weighing 3 lbs 12 oz and he is now 11 months old and refuses to walk! He loves to stand but when I put him on his tummy he turns himself over! I have come to the conclusion that he is skipping the crawling and going to the standing and walking stage! People have told me that he is really only 9 1/2 months old but he is a strong boy! I treat him like he is 11 months old and he will get to the stages at his own pace! Don't stress! I know I did and I compared him to other babies but they are all different! He will get there!

my daughter just yesterday, started to crawl on all 4s but she still prefers army crawling. she was born @ 27 wks and is 10 months (7 corrected)...she was rolling all over the place but now...i can't leave the room for a minute, she's starting to crawl over pillows and whatever other obstacles are there! can be stressful as now is when we really have to baby proof and be careful so that accidents don't happen.
i wouldn't worry, your baby will do so when he is ready :D

Definately not! Lots of full-term babies are not crawling at 6 months. My son was 16 months when he crawled and 18 when he walked (he was 23w6d when born), he is now 3 and doesn't walk anymore... he runs everywhere! I definately agree with the other posts, preemies just need a little extra time

My 31 weeker didn't crawl until he was 10 months old and didn't walk until 16 months. My 35 weeker crawled at around 9 months and walked at 15 months. Don't worry. I was always concerned too but they all develop at different rates.

Not at all! 9 months is the average for a baby to crawl..i know we hear a lot about babies crawling earlier than that but that is what drs and books say is the average. I know I was in a hurry for my son to crawl but now he's into everything and i'm constantly after him! My son started crawling at 10 months (9 corrected, he was born 35 wks at 4lbs 12). Preemies just need time to grow and catch up..don't worry, he will get there! You shouldn't be concerned at all if he is meeting his developmental milestones according to his corrected age of 6 months.
