My 16 months old girl was born at 33 weeks weighed 1.6kg(3.5 pounds). I had PIH

She only walks holding on to furniture and wall, etc actually she cruises like that. She only started this week to walk when you holding her one hand.

My son was born @ 32 weeks & weighed 3 lbs., 12 oz. He started walking on his own at 15 months. He would walk holding someone's hand from around 12 months; it just took him a long time to get the confidence to do it on his own.

wont be long then. my bub was standing by herself and staying in one spot about 2 weeks after she started cruising, that was around 12 1/2 months she didn't start walking til she was 13 nearly 14 months. she was also born at 33 weeks but she was nearly 2 kilo's (4'27". they say not to worry too much if they don't start walking up til around 18 months, given that she's a preemie I would give her that extra 7 weeks before I got too worried. if she's cruising though it cant be too far away! you can try to encourage her by walking with her holding your hand, then let go and take a small step forward and hold out your hand. once she takes that first step by herself and knows she can do it, it wont be long before she's running all over the house! good luck.

My doll was born at 26weeks and weighted 1lb and 12ounces and walked when she was 15months to be exact. Have patience and stay positive. I was worried also that she was not walking at 9months like every other baby but since she was a premiee I gave her time and little did I know my baby was not walking but running :)

my son was born at 33 weeks. He started walking on his own at 12 months 3 weeks... we bought him a toy that he absolutely LOVED so it helped him stand up and gain the courage to walk all by himself... Each baby is very different though. My brother (who was actually a week late) was not even pulling himself up onto things at 15 months. So I wouldn't worry about it too much, just give her pleanty of opportunities to try to walk on her own... She'll get there eventually!

Don't worry...she's well on her way. My son was born at 29 weeks and was fully walking just after his supposedly real birthday. He was born June 6th...but was due Aug. 12th. So he was 16 months old. I've heard of 40 week babies not walking until 19 months sometimes. My son has no issues with motor skills, and is turning 6 this June...his GOLDEN birthday. He's very active, talkative, and I worried every inch of the way as he grew. We angst and worry, as we should, but after looking back, I was OVERLY worried because of him being a preemie. Good luck and don't worry...it sounds like she's on her way!

My son was born at 34 wks & weighed 3lb 12oz. He hasnt started walking yet, but he will walk while holding your hands, or the furniture. But like his crawling I figure one day he'll be gone. He went from scooting across the floor to crawling on his hands & knees in one day...then for his 8&1/2 mos pictures he was standing up holding onto a barrel (he had just started holding himself up while standing) and right before she takes the pic he turns to completly face her & turns loose with one hand...then she takes the pic & he turns loose completely! He probably could have stood there, but I grabbed him so he wouldnt fall. (since he was on the table they use to sit babies on for pics). But he will walk with his push toy too. I figure it wont be long now. Oh & I also have ceramic tile floors in all the rooms but the bedrooms so I dont like him standing on them because im scared he'll bust his head open.

Jenny, they told me it would take 5 years for CJ to catch up to the other kids... It didn't, he was right there with his age group. He's 17 years old, weight 270 and, height 6' 1''......it doesn't all fall to the doctors to say how they will be.... God had a BIG hand with CJ. He wasn't suppose to come home, they told me to go ahead and make funeral arrangements when he was 2days old! That was 17 years ago and he's as healthy as can be!!!! Each baby goes at his or her own rate, So don't fret!!! Just enjoy!!!!

My daughter was born at 35 wks and was 3 and half pounds. She didn't start to crawl until her first bday. Then started walking 10 days later. It takes preemies more work and they can actually be behind up to two yrs. My girl is now 2 and actually ahead intellectually for her age. She has still not caught up in size but she excells in everything else.

We moved with in 2 months after that in to a house, and he was runuing everywhere!! LOLWhen my son was born he weighed in at 3lbs, 15 ozs...He was 7 weeks early!

My son weighed 4lbs 8oz at 31 weeks and walked at 13 months, but my friend's son born at 27 weeks at 2lbs is still not walking at 16 months. Don't forget to adjust her age for her prematurity plus whatever difficulties she had catching up to her gestational age. My son was huge for being born 9 weeks early, but his dad's whole family had huge babies (10-14lbs!!), so he's actually in the 96% of size for a normal 19 month old. So, technically, your daughter's adjusted age is only 11 months. She is considered premie for 2 full years before they want her caught up. Now, my son barely talks and they want to send him to a speech therapist (we're waiting for now). He has comprehension, uses some sign language including some he made up himself, but words are few and far between. He only says about 8 words, when he should be at about 25. Sounds like your daughter is well on her way to walking if she is using furniture. Just practice letting her walk a few paces between you and another person and she'll get it.

My 17 month old daughter was born at 33 weeks as well, for the same reason...I had PIH. She weighed in at 4 lbs 10 oz. She only spent 3 weeks in the NICU learning how to eat. She didn't have any neurological issues or infections. She started walking on her own at 13 months and now she is running. I would keep encouraging her to walk holding your hand and maybe try letting go. Remember, regardless of what "the books" say or the "physicians" say, EVERY child is different and develops at THEIR OWN pace. Be patient with her, I know it's easier said than done.

And to give you a little perspective on children developing on their own, my son, now 3 years old, is JUST learning to articulate words. I have had him into several doctors, psychologists, they all thought he was autistic or had this or that...when in his own little world, he is simply a slow developer in being able to articulate words...real words. He was talking, but saying things like "guk" for truck or "wah" for water, "numa" for milk. After 2 years of many doctors & psychologists, they all came to the same conclusion...he isn't autistic, he doesn't have this or that, he is simply put..."a slow developer in articulating his vocabulary...once he starts learning to articulate, you will notice his vocabulary and English start growing like wildfire". After going to a speech therapist for 3 months, he is forming sentences, articulating English vocabulary like wildfire.

Again, just be patient with your little one and work with her as much as you can. I promise, she will get it. She is doing things on her own time.

He started to attempt to walk around Thanksgiving (16 mos actual, 14 mos corrected), but didn't master it until January (18 mos actual, 16 mos corrected). My little one was a 26 weeker. She walked holding onto things for what seemed to be forever. Then one day she started to do it. She was between 16 and 17 months (13-14 mos corrected). She will get there. My father who was full term at birth did not walk until he was 2 years old. He always reminded me of that when I would talk about her not walking without holding on.

My preemie was born at 34 weeks and she didnt walk till almost 14 months, and she was 4.12 @ birth, so since yours was littler, she will any time now. my DD was a 24 weeker 776 grams (1 lb 11oz). She started physical therapy at age 11 months. She crawled at 13 months and walked at nearly 18 months. She started pulling to a stand at 12 months 2 weeks - the day after she got her glasses and could judge the distance to the coffee table properly!
