My son was born 2 months early on 9.22.09. he came home 5wks later on Zantac and Reglan for his Reflux. He does a lot of grunting while eating and seems hungry again right after i feed him. He doesnt have a lot of spit..i think he is what they call the "silent refluxer" but he just seems so uncomfortable like all the time..he crys ALOT..i was wondering are there any moms dealing with something like this and any tips on how to make my little acid refluxer more comfy!!! Thanks.

I put two table spoons of rice cereal per 4 oz bottle of formula to help keep stuff down helps a lot and that medicine didn't work on my son so he takes prilosec perscribed by the pediatrition and as his wieght increases he needs a dose increase he usually lets me know when it's time to increase his dose he gets fussy during meals. I hope this helps my son has awful reflux please feel free to message me if you want to talk about this more

1 word! CHIROPRACTOR!!! In our town babies under 1 are free to be adjusted. My 2nd child had reflux bad. From every bottle she would throw up at least 10 times. I couldn't keep up with my laundry!
The doctor changed her to every formula there was tried Zantac and another medicine that didn't work, she had an upper G.I. and then a scope down into her stomach. We couldn't feed her throughout the night before the procedure, but after 12 hours of not feeding her she had an excessive amount of milk left in her stomach. We left from the hospital on more medicine and said do not burp her over your shoulder...make her sit up. (She was 2 months old) They gave us a reflux sling to put her in as well.
Well I took her to the Chriopractor and she adjusted her a total of 3 times (every other day for a week) and she was back to normal with no medicine, regular formal, no sling the whole 9 yards. IT WAS GREAT AND I HIGHLY RECOMMEND ONE!!
Good luck!

I invented a baby product that has been GREAT for children with Reflux. It helps the child (baby) set up after feeding and gives them comfort. I would love you to check it out. I think it will help your little one. www.myhuggabebe.com Best Wishes!!

My son was born on May 12th, 2009, a month early. He has reflux. Sometimes he will spit up, but a lot of times it's vomitting. He can throw up an entire bottle after taking it. His doctor has him on Zantac twice a day. She also has me add 1tbsp of rice cereal to his bottle for every two ounces of formula. Adding the cereal to his bottles has helped, somewhat. He does not throw up as often as he was. The key with the Zantac is giving it every day at the same times, and not getting off schedule. My sons doctor has also checked him for Pyloric Stenosis, which he did not have (Thank God). That's a condition that can cause the vomitting, and it's most common in first born sons. If your child has not been tested for that I would ask his doctor if they think it would be nessecary to do the test. It's just a simple ultra sound of their tummy. Good luck! I hope you find him some relief!

My daughter had acid reflux when she was born. It was a phase she went through however. One thing someone once told me to try was to take a warm wash cloth and put it in a ziplock bag, and put it on your chest. Lay the baby across your chest on top of it. It soothes them. it worked for my daughter, made her more comfortable. As far as seeming like he is still hungry all the time. I'd talk to the doctors about it. If he's gaining wait like he should, then he's getting enough to eat, you don't want to over do it.

Both of my children had reflux, though my son had it much worse (even though my son was late and my daughter was early). I used mylicon but didn't get great results. I did, however, find 5 things that helped immensely:

- A good chiropractor. I took both my children to a chiropractor and it worked wonders!! They were both out in the areas that effect the esophagus and stomach. He gently worked with them and it helped sooooo much!

- A good wrap. I use gysymama, but moby is a cheaper version. I wrapped my children up on me, tummy to tummy, so that I could get work done while they rested. The heat from my body and the closeness really helped settle them.

- Minimizing crying. Yes, they cry a lot, but I rocked them and NEVER let them CIO or cry unnecessarily. Any extra crying just really aggravated it.

- Co-sleeping. I'm not sure why, maybe it was the warmth of my body, but they did much better next to me in bed.

- Demand feeding. I found feeding smaller amounts, more often, was huge!

Good luck!

my daughter is a silent refluxer too and hers is so bad it caused her to get really stiff and start shaking. then her heart monitor would go off. this only happened when she came home. she didn't deal with it in the hospital. she was born 4 months early and they say it is normal. she is on zantac also and it is really helping her. she was born on august 16, 2009 and is home now. she came home on november 9. due date was december 9

I have had 6 premature babies, 3 of which had GERD. 2 of them have outgrown it now, but my 23 month old still suffers. Keep your child elevated during feeds and after. Elevate the head of the crib if you must. Burp often. And speak to the dr if all else fails. Remember as your child puts on weight, his meds may need to be readjusted. My youngest has had his Zantac dosage raised several times. Best wishes.

My son was born at 33 weeks and has GERD (reflux disease). We kept him elevated while he slept and he hardly ever laid down cuz it hurt too much and we burped him every ounce or every other ounce.

My Baby was 2 month early and after being discharged from the Neo-Natal unit we were back in childrens ward the following week. He suffered Reflux too. We found elevating the Mattress otr the cot helped, we also bought a baby bean bag (doo moo) instead of a bouncer seat so he could lay down but still be elevated enough for the reflux to stay put. He is 6 months old now and we have slowly weaned him off his meds and seems alot happier now. Good luck x
