Hi im Heather. I went to a routine week checkup and my Dr. told me I was measuring small by 4 weeks so he wanted an ultrasound right then which we did which showed my amniotic fluid was then at a 6.5 so i was put on bed rest and had another ultrasound scheduled for the next week to check my levels again. Next week came and I had my ultrasound and it was at a 3.85 which is an unhealthy level for a baby to be in so i was sent to the hospital and they gave me iv fluids and checked me four hrs later and i was at 2.9 so they told me i had Oligohydraminos and i had to be induced early because my daughter could no longer survive in the womb. My daughter ellie was born 7 weeks early and was in nicu for respiratory distress. They never did find out why it is my amniotic fluid was depleting but i was just wondering if anyone else ended up having a preemie for this reason?

I have had lots of complications with low amniotic fluid, I have had 2 stillborns because of it, and I just delivered a 24 weeker on August 18th. I had no leakage etc.. and the doctors thought it was due to blood clots in the placenta. But upon delivery there were none. There was really no explanation. My placenta was the sixe of an orange and there was no fluid. It has been a really hard battle with pregnancies for me, but my babygirl is doing well in the NICU, and I wouldn't trade her for the world.

I had my son at 26 weeks due to oligohydraminos. My water never broke, the fluid just got absorbed. In my case the doctors dont know what happened for sure but they think that my placenta just stopped working, causing my son to get less nurishment and the fluid level to go down. Since they dont know the cause, they dont know if it would happen again in another pregnancy. My son just turned 3 and is still small but doing great!
