Hi

I need help trying to get rid of my son's hick-ups. He's 16 weeks. He gets them constantly and they go on forever and he ends up crying. I've tried grip water and mylicon. The Mylicon seems to help with his gas, but the hick-ups never seem to subside for a couple of hours.

Any ideas? I hate seeing him crying over hick-ups.

Thanks, Tina

funny you say this, but my daughter had the hick ups all the time too and guess what it was........ REFLUX!!! i never knew but its a sign of reflux. poppy never creid, she would maybe have a large spew once a day and thats it. but as it was so bad and left untreated until she was 15 wks old, she stopped feeding, went back onto nasal gastric feeding. the head gastro doctor of out state ask if she got the hick ups and we were like, yeah all the time. and it was him who told us. so maybe fo to your GP and get it looked at??????/

A small drink of cooled boiled water is one I've heard. If problem persits or is giving him real discomfort/upset, mention it to his doc/health visitor. You say your son is 16 weeks? Is that his corrected age (taken from his actual due date) Most meds need to be considered from corrected age. Gripe water is generally only suitable for babies over 1 month old, so if he was 12 weeks or more early, he's probably not yet able to take gripe water. My son suffers from hiccups time to time, but can't be given gripe water due to kidney problems. Usually a drink will help, (i'm breastfeeding, but if you are bottle feeding him, it should still apply) Good luck and let us know how you get on....this may just be a problem that resolves itself, but never be afraid to ask advice from the professionals involved with you and your little one. x
