My 28 weeker came home on a 9, 12, 3 and 6 schedule from her NICU feedings. Right after she came home she was skipping the 12 o'clock feeding while she was sleeping and they told us that was fine because they grow when they sleep. So at almost 8 weeks old she was sleeping through the night.

My son was born only 5 weeks early and he still doesnt slepp through the night, but if your baby is waking up because she is hungry then I would feed her because premie babies sometimes need those extra feedings to keep their energies up. Some researches claim that some causes of SIDS are due to babies simply running out of energy to keep themselves alive. Im not trying to scare you but I wouldnt push your baby to sleep through the night she will do it when she is developmentally ready. As long as your doctor says your baby is healthy enough to sleep that long in between feedings then go right ahead and feel lucky that your baby will sleep that long...I know I would be amazed to get that much sleep at once!

Sounds like you guys are doing great jobs since your little ones are sleeping through!! My prem (12 weeks old, 1 week corrected) and sleeps 3.5 hours before waking to be fed :-) sometimes 4 at night if he has a huge feed before bed time.

I have a 6 month old, 4 months adjusted that still wakes up 2-3 times a night, once if I'm lucky. But she also doesn't go to sleep until 11:30 or 12 at night, which makes me a little more tired.

My baby was born at 32 weeks, but his weight was quite high for his gestational age. He is now 3 months & 4 days (6 weeks corrected age). He has been sleeping through for. About 5-6 hours every night for about two weeks now hooray! Some days he even treats me to 7 or 8 hours straight! :D

its a good method try it if you can get one to sleep through, the other should just slot into the routine. we had the routine set up bath at half 7 then bottle and bed, now its bath at 6 and then bottle and bed....just that stable routine REALLY helped!

Good luck!

It doesn't help that they are twins.....she normally wakes my son if she cries for too long and then I sit with two crying babies :-( She went in for an opperation to remove a tumour on her head that was on its way to the brain and ever since then she's been like this. I think she wants to know that she's not alone, but maybe I should send my son to grandma for a couple of nights to try your method.....no harm in trying, hey???? Thanks for the advice.

Hi Hun,

Youo could try just leaving her without a dummy when  she goes to bed...i just managed to get my son sleeping through from using controlled crying...it only took 2 nights....(he never liked dummies)

I have a 8 mos. old and he was in the Nic unit for 2 weeks after he was born. Alot of him not sleep is because he was hungry so when I brought him home I started giving him a little cereal watered down. If they have a full tummy they will sleep better. but seeing you have a 5 mos old you should be giving her cereal every night before she goes to bed. Start out watered down first..

My twins were born at 28 weeks. We probably could have gotten them to sleep through the night earlier, but because they were on three meals a day by age 7 months they still needed their midnight milk feed. On the night they were 14 months (9 months corrected) they slept through for the first time and have been doing it for a week now. My one little one still moans a few times, but if we leave her she settles after 5 minutes.

My baby girl was born at 30 weeks gestation, she is now almost 6 months (4 months correct age). Yay, for the past week Hayley has been sleeping thru the night, going to bed between 7 nd 8pm and waking at 6am. Day time sleep isnt the best cat napping but atleast we all sleep at night now, it makes life so much easier.

my son was born at 33 weeks. He's a year old today, and still wakes up 1 or 2 times at night. I think it depends on the child, and what you are willing to do to get to that point. My daughter was born full term and didn't sleep through the night until she was 15 months. I wasn't one to let them cry or not feed them when they woke up hungry, so it takes a little longer.

i had my daughterr at 34 weeks and like most parents u do wat they told u at the hospital. but i learn real fast was to let them wake up on there own to eat and i would say a month and a half of bringing her home she slept through the night

[deleted account]

My daughter was born at 27 weeks gestation and came home from the NICU when she was 4 months old. She started sleeping through the night about 3 weeks after she came home because I stopped waking her up to feed at night. Otherwise, I'm sure it would have been sooner! She is now 11 months old (8 months adjusted age) and rarely wakes up in the middle of the night.

My son was born at 33 weeks and he was sleeping trhough the night at around 4-5 months. He would have stated that sooner but we had to wake him every 3 hours to eat.
