I have a 5 1/2 yr old little boy, who has SPD- however we have been denied authorization from the insurance because his motor skills are fine for a 5 yr old. However, he has auditory, and visual challenges and we NEED therapy. Does anyone have any suggestions and/or help they can give?
Thank you,
Stephanie

Has he been evaluated for autism? Perhaps if he was on the spectrum he would get the services he needs.

You can also try to find an Occupational Therapy that is Sensory certified. Sometimes this is a slight glitch in the process for coverage.

Precious Stephanie -
Go online and do research and link up with other moms with SPD children. There may even be a support group online -
Loving you, precious mommie ♥

Therapy in the schools is great way to try. They are not allowed to be the direct provider in the schools without having another need being addressed with the special ed teacher or speech pathologist. They can however offer suggesstions to try at home and even with your permission of course try sensory modalities at school to help with attention and calming of the nervous system.

We were able to get our daughter covered by the doctor write a prescription for her for an 'Unspecified Disorder of the Central Nervous System'. From there, we got the Procedure codes and diagnostic codes from the therapy center. BE SURE TO CALL your insurance company first and make sure they will cover everything. We had to make sure they covered the Diagnosis (code) IN CONJUNCTION with the evaluation AND treatment codes.
Good Luck to you and I hope this helps! What state do you live in?

Hi Stephanie,
Request an evaluation through your local school district. If he qualifies, he will recieve services for free.

Call the insurance company and make sure the therapists office entered the right code. That's happend to me before with something else and the insurance wouldn't pay since it was the wrong code. When they tell you what was entered and it's not correct call the therapist and have it changed. If it is correct talk to your doctor who perscribed the therapy and see if their office can convince the insurance to cover it.
