Have a defiant 13yr. old who won't complete chores because he is already in trouble and on restriction. He is frequently disrespectful and cusses at me when angry. He was worse before his six month stay at a behavioral center three months ago. I just need to know how to handle him better so he doesn't escalate his behavior and become abusive again.

i feel for you. i don't know where you are from, but here in the usa we have the ability to go to the court system for a chins order(child in need of services) this would not be my first step but it is one that i had to take with my 13 yr old. this gave him a probation officer that he had to meet with weekly,he also checked up with the school.some kids can be set straight with this method.other kids may become more defiant. that was my 13 year old. so then he had to deal with a judge. you could also call the center he was in and ask for their advice or go to counseling.
