my name is Nicole and I have a 15 year old daughter, 3 year old son and 1 yr old daughter. Things are hectic, but I love it. There are days my teen and I get along great and days where I wonder how I'll survive. We're trying to figure out how to find a balance of giving her independence, but also being active parents. My husband and I don't always agree on parenting which makes it difficult at times. Anyway, I stumbled upon this group and it's nice to know we're not in this alone!

I agree completely, it's nice to know that I'm not alone!! My daughter is 13 and my sons are 3 years and 9 months. I'm finding the teenage years to be challenging...and we've just begun. The active parenting approach is great, most of the time. I just finished the course Active Parenting of Teens...learned some fantastic techniques in dealing with teenage behaviour. However, there are some days (lots lately) that when my daughter doesn't get her own way, she carries on with stomping, screaming, etc., which my 3 year old is picking up. Frustrating...how do you deal with this in your home??

if you find a way of dealing with your daughter let me know as i'm like that with y 14 year old . .. i'm not sure what to do my hubby and i set guidelines the first one is notice at least 2 days of when she wants to do something i.e.go to friends places 2 if she leaves there for any reason she must text either one of us and let us know where she is 3. she has to be home for tea at 6 o'clock each night and doesn't go out after .. it worked great for a while but if we say no for any reason she yells sooks and carrys on which my 2&12 and 19month old are copying.

your not alone its the day and age the kids are trying to grow up to fast

He's 17. Yes, last year with a 16 yo and 3 yo in the house at the same time I could really see the similarities!!! :)

Thanks, Lauri! Is your 17 year old a boy or girl? It sure is interesting (to put it mildly) dealing with teen issues, toddler issues and a fiesty baby (who has apparently deciding screaming is the best way to keep up with big bro!) Heaven help me! ;)

Your kids are beautiful! I have a spread like that too: 23, 17, 4, 9mo. I would not want to relive my teen years again even if I knew what I know now. Most of the time I think that all they hear is Charlie Brown's teacher "waa wa wa wa waaa" but I'm always surprised that they really do listen.
