Why not let these eating machines (teenage boys) learn to do for themselves a little?

They know what they want to eat, so fill the fridge and let 'em loose in the kitchen!

We keep a lot of taco salad fixin's on hand:

lettuce, chopped tomatoes and peppers, cubed grilled chicken, tortilla chips, salsa, light sour cream, low-fat shredded cheese.

Our son makes his own taco salad, using the ingredients he likes. He's eating more veggies now :D

Also, we keep lots of raw veggies and low-fat ranch dressing, sandwich fixin's too.

He prefers to do for himself, which is good since I won't be going to college with him.

He also likes to cook eggs (another staple) or make saute'd fish. We often have individually packaged fish fillets in the freezer. He likes it with spicy cajun seasoning, so he only makes it for himself.

Also good are instant mashed potato packets made by Idahoan. He whips those up in just a minute of two.

Got a blender? Vanilla yogurt, their favorite fruit & some milk makes a quick smoothie. In the right glass with a straw you can be in the caribbean in a minute or two. We like coconut yogurt w. crushed pineapple + a little coconut extract. MMmmm

Word of warning: my son cleans up the kitchen as much or more than I do. If you have kids who leave messes and you are the mom who steps in and saves the day instead of making them clean it up, then this might not work well for you...

Not cleaning it up just isn't an option in our home. He knows if he doesn't do it, it'll just wait until he does, cause I'm not cleaning up his mess!

I overheard my son telling a group of his friends to come on over mom is making dinner. OMG!!! I had bought a roster chicken and there must have been 4 of them all growing boys. Needless to say I made a trip to get hamburger and a two loaves of bread. Made two pounds of spaghetti and garlic bread. I could never figure out how the whole neighborhood knew when it was dinner time. Good luck sweetie when you figure it out let me know.

How do you STOP feeding a hungry teenager? I have 2 teen boys and they go thru food faster than I can buy it And when their friends come over its a food free-for-all. They are both 6 ft tall (ages 15 & almost 18) and are actually losing weight.
