How do I help my shy and reserved 14 year old daughter?

My daughter is a year younger than most of the kids in her grade. I think this causes her to feel shy and intimated by her peers. She is very involved in her school and is even a cheerleader but I don't think a lot of kids like her because she acts socially awkward. How can I help her? I feel that she should have all the confidence in herself but she doesn't seem to?

You can try to sign her up to something other teenagers might do, some sort of social setting. You could put her into girl guides/scouts or maybe bring her to some sort of youth group in your area (if there is one). You may try to convince her to join some more school activities (like a reading club, something with actually talking rather than a sports club).

There's not much you can do because it's really up to her whether she'll talk to other kids or not. You should stay positive about how great she is, keep her confidant in other ways, and try to make sure she has activities and socialization outside of school to balance herself out.
