How Do You Communicate, Engage & Connect with Your Teenager?

The most obvious place to engage in stimulating conversation with anyone, especially a teenager, is common ground.

My son came in yesterday while I was cooking dinner with 6/25/12 ESPN magazine. They published a double issue with Q & A's "Answers to All of Life's Pesky Sports Questions" My husband and I enjoyed over an hour of interesting and fun conversation with our teenager as he read the questions and we all took a stab at the answers. While I am not a die hard sports fan, I knew enough to contribute to the conversation. I highly recommend this for your family!

Can you share with me ways you engage in conversation with your teenager?

My 16 year old son and I have a good hour talk every night about his day, school, work and any other concerns he has. I try to be open minded to what he has to say and give him advice to guide him in the right way, I also try to keerp myself informed of his friends, interests and hobbies. We try to compromise at times when I need him to do sometrhing for me ie babysit his youger siblimgs and I try to get mad or yell; I just tell him all his choices have consequences good or bad and I will not bail him out. Thnank God the most he does is skip a class here and there.
