My 13 year old is obsessed with Beiber and 1D fan pages

My 13 year old loves Justin Bieber and One Direction. I know that this is normal at this age but, what worries me, is that she is constantly online reading about them, following them etc. She has joined several fan pages on Facebook and elsewhere on the internet and some of them have questionable content. I even caught her on one in which an alleged fan was graphically describing sex acts with one of the 1D members!! These sites are not generally blocked by parental controls and denying her the internet is not an option because most of her schoolwork is online.. Any thoughts?? I don't want to deny her the experience of being a fan, or learning about these celebrities, but I am terrified that she may be negatively influenced but some of these websites..

I am very open with her and we have discussed this with her many times - sorry if I gave anyone a different impression.. By "where she will go from there" I mean, if she visits a certain website, other related websites will be suggested, which is how she got to the inappropriate 1D site. I just meant that it would be difficult, if not impossible, to find and block all of them.

You also need to be conversing with her, sharing your concerns, etc. The only way that you'll feel any comfort with this situation is if you are open with your daughter about your concerns.

As in "where will she go from there". Do you mean where as in internet wise, or where as in her personal decisions and actions. Honestly, the only way to parent in this generation is to be open with them, IMO.

Thanks - I do have my desktop located in the family room, but she also has a school-issued laptop and most of her homework in done on the laptop. I'm not so much concerned with her looking at websites about celebrities, I just worry about where she will go from there. As far as blocking, I have blocked sites that I know are inappropriate. Thanks for the advice!

not only can you block websites like shawnn described, but it helps if you have the computer stationed in the family room, so that deters any "sneaking around" going on. my 8 & 9 yo play on the computer and look up monster high, and selena gomez, and thinks like this, but we have specific sites blocked, and the computer is a "family computer" and is in the family room.

Yes, you CAN block any website. Go to internet tools, then security, and add whichever sites you want to restrict to your restricted sites list.

ANY website can be blocked. You just sometimes need to go outside the realm of the normal "parental controls" blocks. Each internet provider should have a method to block a website.
