My son is 17 and has been dating his longtime girlfriend for about 4 years or rather he was she broke up with him a few weeks back. Since then it’s been rough my son never parties or anything has never drank before or smoked or anything well over the weekend he came home absolutely wasted I mean hammered. The next morning I had a long talk but it didn’t do much as he came home Saturday night drunk as well. I also think my son is getting hazed by his teammates on the baseball team he has been coming home and when he took off his shirt to go swimming he had bruises on him and such. I don’t know what to do or how to handle this I am a single mom. What should I do? Advice?

First, moms can be very powerful in their son's lives. Start getting him in the car and taking him on fun outings where you spend time together. These can be cheap or free. Just get him where he has to stick with you and interact with you and distract him as well as giving him lots of time to warm up to you and talk to you. If he is 17, he may have been drinking at times you were not aware of before. Talk to the coach about the bruises and if the coach doesn't take it seriously, talk to the principal. It's also possible he got into fights when drunk and this happened someplace other than school. Get actively involved and don't let him or anyone brush you off. Bribe him to go with you by offering great cheeseburglers or whatever you're going to have when you are out and about. Just get facetime and also distract him to help him get through it. Let him go back to the first woman in his life for a while.
