Finding appropiate summter wear is hard - the shorts are shorter the blouses are lower and too sexy for my 13 yr old she is 5ft 4" and her body is more developed - she tries to give me a hard time but we agree on most clothing - am I the too paranoid?

Sara - I like the cut off idea!!! My daughter is 14, 5'8", super skinny and a 34D. It is SO hard to purchase for her!!! Swimsuits are impossible! The clothing designers should all be ashamed of themselves for making shorts with only a 1" inseam. Not to mention the low cut tops. It's crazy!!!

nope your not, there are too many parents out there that are letting their girls wear just whatever. I say I buy the cloths you will wear them. You don't want her to be suggestive and get into trouble that she may not be aware she is attracting.

I agree...it is difficult to buy things that are fashionable but not too revealing. that's why we have to come to a consensus as well before buying anything :)

I agree we have come to a consensus that we dont just buy things we try them on first. After she has them on I say that if fine but must be worn with this under it or nope it is too short. Tank tops are a hard one for me because they have such low cut necks but I have found that buying two diferent styles and layering them is fine and the kids think it is cool LOL. As for shorts good luck I swear everything is skin tight and too short but what can you do their isnt much else out there. I will say this good old fashioned cut offs are back in style and selling for ridiculous prices why dont you buy her some pants and cut them off. You two can inch it up a bit at a time until you find something you can both agree on. Actually we do this all the time and I buy her pants/shorts from the goodwill because I dont see any reason to pay for something I am going to be cutting up. She loves em and I dont have to wince every time I see them.

i know what you are all going through, my 13 yo is 5 foot 8 and is fully developed and has been for 2 years. we live on the coast of queensland in australia and everyone her age dresses in short short or skirts and halter or bikini tops. my daughter is very self concious as she is larger in every way than all the girls at her school. trying to find clothes for her has always been a hard thing as girls clothes are to small and most ladies clothes are too revealing or to mature for her. as a result she says she will go for the goth style of clothes, long flowing skirts or jeans and long shirts (of course all in black!) i hate black on kids but what choice do i have.

I agree with the other ladies, the clothing these days are HORRIBLE. I can't even find appropriate clothing for my 8 and 11 year old daughters. Since your daughter is over 5 feet tall, check in the misses section instead of the junior section. I know it's hard to find anything smaller than a size 6 but you might find something more appropriate there....

I think clothing manufacturers have a LOT to answer for. When my eldest daughter was a teen and we'd go shopping and she'd pick something out that I thought was too scanty I'd always say to her 'do you really think you'll be comfortable in this ?' a couple of times at the start she'd say 'yes' but would only wear said item a couple of times and then it would stay in the drawer until the charity bag beckoned, my younger daughter is almost 12 and I'm going through the same thing with her now, I'm hoping for the same result with her too, hopefully I've raised them to have some self respect, I dress modestly myself, I hope I've set a good example.

absolutely not. If her kudos come from showing too much skin now she's going to want to show more and more. I like the move towards Tankinis instead of bikinis that I've been noticing in the catalogs. My neice is 10 and developing. Our family is a little heavy genetically and her best friend is a tiny weeny little ballet slip of a thing who wears very revealing clothing already so I know your pain on trying to find attractive popular styles that she'll like and wear. She needs to feel somehow as "in" as her friend without giving up support and modesty as she grows.
