I was wondering what you do when your fifteen year old daughter wants to hang out late with friends on a weeknight when we the parents work in the am. We are allowing her to be with her friends pretty much when ever she wants during day and evening but when we have to go to bed, we want her home as we cannot wait up for her.

Of course there is not a national law, that is not under the realm of national authority, read the constitution, I never assumed that. But, there are most certainly local and state ones. http://www.safetycops.com/ill_curfew.htm

Hey, Renee, if it works for you that's good, but IMO, a 16 YO that isn't allowed out at all is a little extreme...But, hey it's your rules, and if they don't mind...

I've never had to give my kids a curfew. Even on the nights where I've said "see ya whenever" they're in before 10. The latest my eldest has been out was 4 a.m. at the graduation after party.

Edited...to complete the sentences! Its monday morning...LOL

Wow, maybe I need to give my kids more freedom...I don't let them stay out in the evening at all! My son is almost 16, and the girls are 11 and 12...
The girls want me to drop them off at the mall with their friends to walk around alone, but I won't even do that unless I am at the mall too. And apparently their friends parents drop them off at the movies alone to watch a movie, and pick them up when it lets out...I haven't even considered letting them go.
I can't imagine what my son would be doing until midnight...

Give her a curfew. My 16 year old has to be home by 11 on weekdays and 12 on weekends or I am to get a phone call 30 min. prior to curfew asking can he spend the night. My 10 year old has to be home when the street lights turn on.

Actually, Ramona, there is not, as you assume, a national curfew in the US, nor are there any "state" curfew laws. If an individual city wants to have a curfew in effect, they may do so, but it is not at a state, nor a federal level.

Isn't there a local curfew for underage teens? I know most states have them.

Can't you have her check in when she gets in at curfew? I used to just poke my head into mom's room and say "I'm home". Didn't wake her much, but enough that she knew I was home.

Only a suggestion. We stay up late, so it's not a problem at my house...LOL...and my kids are early to come home most days, too.
