Hi everyone. My family is going through a really unfortunate situation right now, and I want to make sure that no other family has to face the same situation.
My 13 yr. old son was @ a sleep over @ a friends with about 5 other boys his age. These boys were sending text messages to other people who weren't there. Each trying to out do the others. One of the boys sent a text to a boy from their basketball team says "I'm UR stalker." Harmless, but stupid.
So my son went one further and sent the same type of text to a girl from another state. He never met her before, but had been texting her off & on since she mis-dialed him a few months ago. To him it seemed harmless, since she lived so far away. However, her parents found out about these texts & not knowing who they were from, they filed a police report.
Now, because it was across state lines using a cell, my son if facing possible charges. We've had to hire an attorney in order to protect him.
He realizes that what he did was stupid & he said that he would never say that to a person's face.
SO THE MORAL OF THE STORY IS TO MAKE SURE THAT YOUR CHILDREN UNDERSTAND THAT THEY SHOULD NEVER TEXT OR EMAIL SOMETHING TO ANOTHER PERSON THAT THEY WOULD NOT SAY TO THEIR FACE.
Please talk to your children to make sure that they are safe in this cyber age.
