My son, Jonny is 11 years old. He is good-natured, helpful and kind. He is also very cute and funny, so he has a lot of friends that are girls. Well, one day, we were just riding in my car on the way home from his summer program, and he breaks the silence with: "Mom, is it okay if I have a girlfriend?" My response was: " You already have friends that are girls. Those are girlfriends." He said " No! I mean a REAL girlfriend. So I can kiss her and take her out to the movies and hangout together all the time!" I just glanced at my son, then back on the road. I told him he was too young and that he should concentrate on school and having fun. He needs to have a happy childhood. I dont want him to end up like his Dad and me: teen parents who had to grow up because of an unexpected pregnancy. I want him to just enjoy being a kid. He thinks I'm being too old-fashioned, and unfair. He says he knows how to make a girl happy: chocolates and love notes with elaborate drawings he likes to do.
UGH!!! What do you think I should do?
