My 15 year old son soon to be 16 informed me that he started smoking cigarettes regularly. he does not drink or do drugs and is not having sex with anyone. should i be concerned? I have told him to try to quit smoking but that has to be up to him

What about an electronic cigerette? that might be easier to help him quit if he really wants to.. just an idea...

No he does not smoke around me or in the house as that is now allowed. Yes you are right i am glad he was honest with me. My son has always been honest with me which i am very thankful for. He knows full well that it is very bad for him and he wants to quit but states he cant. I have asked him if he wants to go on a quit smoking aid and said he is willing to tryi it so I will hope for the best. I guess as far as the teenage years go I am very lucky that my son is so good. He definately is not perfect but he is respectful and listens to the rules and we have a very open and honest relationship. So I guess I just have to take the good with the bad

smoking is one of them stupid things you do at that age and live to regret, he will spend years trying to stop it but only he can realise that. I started smoking at 14 and stopped at 29 I woke up one day and was disgusted that I had Been smoking over half my life.
At least your son has informed you so he's honest, you could try giving him the horrid health facts and show him photos or calculate how much smoking will cost in a year but tbh if he is anything like I was it won't matter one bit. One thing I would do is not have him smoking in the house or around me, purly out of respect.
