My daughter has been in the gifted program in school for 4 yrs, she is in 5th grade this year and things have changed in the grade department. I know gifted is not all about grades, but I am have a hard time understanding why the grades are dropping. She is still smart as ever!

Any one else experiencing this? And any suggestions?

I think a more important indicator of how well you daughter is doing is school is whether she is maintaining her current status compared to her peers. If she's always been one of the top students, and is suddenly is falling behind, that would be cause for alarm. Grades are somewhat vague, and different teachers have different expectations. My kids, who receive full-time gifted programming, have had teachers grade them as though they were compared to average kids at their grade level and sometimes on a curve based on their performance with just the other gifted students. My mother taught 5th grade for 37 years, and frequently had kids struggle a little more because 4th to 5th grade is a significant jump, in terms of student responsibility and difficulty of the curriculum. I bet an inquiry to her teacher(s) would enlighten you. Sounds like you are staying closely involved, so any possible setback she is having is likely temporary. Good luck!
