I agree Louise, I want my son to be a happy boy, thats my other worries, I don't want him to be consume by work, I meet some gifted kids and they have a realy busy schedule, I want to find a balance, but he is always asking for more and he is bored in school, in his clas are learning to writh his names, numbers 1- 10 and some colors, he do that at 1 1/2 years old.
I live in florida, USA. I went to talk with a member to the school board and they just telme "your son need to be in kindergarden, and then you talk to his teacher" but he can't go to kinfer untill august 2012.

I think you need to be assessed and your children entered onto the gifted and tallented register. I think you can ask for them to be tested when they start school in England this is age 4/5 depending on their birthday. The school applies for the testing to be done and once status has been awarded your child should get extention work as well as normal classwork and an external assessor will keep an eye on both the school and your child to assure they are getting the best education. This is how it works in the UK for any where else I am not sure, but I would of thought it is much the same. If this child was mine I would still allow him to go to kindergarden because he still needs to learn social skills and how to interact with children his own age. Then after school with fun in mind expand his mind with different activities like science and maths. Educational books and teaching ideas can be bought from any good book shop. Children learn best in a fun environment so let him have his childhood as well as being a boy genius. He will quickly get picked up once attending school.

I recently read an interesting study that indicated that home-schooled kids tended to be more advanced and literate than public-schooled kids even when their mother/teachers had not finished high school. Home schooling is more about finding the right resources for your kids and giving them guidance and coordination than it is necessarily about teaching everything yourself. There is a wealth of material available online, through homeschooling groups, through local community colleges and such as kids get older. I'm not saying that's necessarily the right answer for you, but don't be intimidated by not being able to teach every subject your kids will encounter--if you have the motivation to find the right assistance for them as individuals, you're already a step ahead of many schools.
