Talk to the teacher; it would depend on the subject. I teach English, and we often have students take Cornell notes. Here is a link: http://coe.jmu.edu/learningtoolbox/corne...
I hope it works. I've heard these notes work for any subject, but I know they work for English and History. I use them with my pre-AP classes and my regular classes. At first the kids hate them, but by the end of the year the kids talk about how much Cornell Notes help them organize information and study for tests. I often have students take Cornell Notes as they read in class or as we have class discussions. They also use this format for any type of notes that they need to copy from the projector. Then when they get home they can fold the page in half and see how much of the important information they can remember. It shows them how much studying they still need to do. Sorry this got long. I hope it helps. :-)

Whatever it is they are studying have them read and re-read the items. Have them rewrite it. Have them write it in their own words to see if they understand what they are studying. I have 2 that are gifted and don't have to study but they do anyway. Even spelling words, we still call them out to them and get them to make sure they do their homework. Just to make sure they will know what to do as they get in higher grades.

Hi Sarah, Would need more information to really assist ie. how old is your child and is it one particular area they now need to work on or are you just preparing them for more senior study? Is it a motivational problem or that they simply do not see the value in reviewing work they already know?
My children are in Primary so at this stage the work is not challenging and therefore do not need to study but I am conscious of them establishing good study habits for high school. In saying that though, I do not make them do any homework in a topic that they have already mastered as I remember how boring continual repetition was once you already understood a topic.

How old are they?? I have a daughter that doesn't "have" to study, but i still make her go through the motions so that when the time comes she will still have the study skills she needs.
