Question Regarding Wii Music?

We got Wii Music recently and my 11yo and 8yo (both girls) LOVE it. No, it won't teach you how to play an instrument, but it will allow for a great deal of creativity through a part of the game called "Custom Jam." Here you can pick a song to play and pick your instrument. If you are unsure of when you play, you can make the "music" show on your screen. This is basically just a rhythm chart, but VERY helpful. There is more than just one game within it. A few mini-games, if you will. The more music you play, the more songs and instruments are "unlocked." There's also a game where you learn to play handbells (movement very much like the real thing). You have to watch the screen and play when your bell's time comes through. Also, Pitch Perfect tests your ability to do things like find the instrument with the highest/lowest pitch, find which instrument is playing the wrong note, figure out which instruments tones are being represented in a chord, etc. Maestro allows you to direct. The possibilities are endless. If you are unsure, I suggest renting it from your local video rental store and trying it out for yourself. Personally, I don't think you'll be disappointed. Beware of those that compare it to Rock Band or Guitar Hero. They are NOT the same thing. In my opinion, Wii Music has gotten a bad rap b/c of its comparisons to those games. It is a brilliant game!

We have the wii guitar hero and rockstar. For a video game it is fine. The music is limiting and does it really teach your child how to play? no not even close. If you are looking to teach your child to play an instrument but do not want to pay for lessons there is a company that has received many awards. It is the piano wizard. We bought it for our daughter (28 mths) and though she is still a little young to grasp all of it she finds pleasure in it. What is it? It is a keyboard and software that plugs into a computer and uses the concept of a video game to teach them how to play. It has four levels and by the 4th level they are reading sheet music. The premiere one has the ability to download any midi file and convert it into the program so your child can learn to play any song. The also have a guitar wizard that plugs into the tv but I don't think it is as advanced as the piano.
